Evolution: A Warlock’s Rise To Power

Chapter 167: Ready, Set, Go

Lucan stepped out of the core and onto the now, dark gray, grass.

"Dangggggg."

He couldn't help muttering to himself when he realized he was over fifty feet tall.

He looked like his normal self, just much bigger. He was still missing his left arm from the elbow down.

He had on his normal armor, but it was just for show, its stats did not carry over. He had a fixed amount of health regardless of what he wore. But his weapons were real. He was able to make use of his wands and scepter. He patted his belt. His bags were not accessible but there was a pouch containing his rarely used throwing knives. And with his current size, they were be bigger than a normal person.

Checking his interface, he had all his spells and abilities. His magic power had risen to conform with the puppet, making him much more powerful than he normally was. The downside was that his great mana regeneration was useless. He had five times his normal mana, but not a single point of it would return after he used it. He had to make sure that each spell would be worth it.

Two of his pets were able to be summoned. Adrestia and Creepy were both available. Lucan had sent Little Brown away shortly after he arrived in the nine hells. He was originally planning to send the bird to Silent so he could accompany her, but she was having a good time with her sister and was even getting shy just chatting with him ever since she took those pictures. He decided to stay away and just chat through their friends list instead. Little Brown was off on his own adventure.

Lucan went out to make alterations to the terrain in his domain before the start of the match.

"Looks like yours is starting to prepare." Ron said to Gil.

The were both at the edge of the balcony sitting at a table with a feast spread before them. They were enjoying good food and fine wine.

"Of course, you don't stand a chance this time. It would be best if you gave way and let me lead the invasion."

"Just because yours is preparing doesn't mean you will win. Just look at that sorcerer I found. It is not every day you come across someone with the bloodline of a phoenix."

"Mmm, good to know." Said a voice behind the two generals.

They both turned around. They should be alone except for the unconscious bodies of Lucan amd the sorcerer.

"What's up?" Lucan asked after the two jerked around to look at him.

"Ha, ha, ha, looks like I have already won. Didn't you read the rules? Ha, ha, ha." Ron said while laughing over and over and slamming his hand on the table.

"But-."

"How could you screw me over like this?" Raged Gilbuzz. "Once your presence leaves the puppet it is as good as forfeiting. Do you think I won't make the rest of your time miserable? Are you looking down on me?"

"But-."

"Ha, ha, ha. You sure picked a good one this time Gil. Ha, ha, ha. To think he would leave before the game even started. Ha, ha, ha. Don't worry, I will put in a good word for you. Maybe while I am off leading the invasion you can have your men guard the boarder. Ha, ha, ha. Oh wait, that is the pitifully duty you already have. Ha. Ha. Ha."

"Can I just get a word o-."

"Good, good. You are in for a lesson in suffering this time Lucan. Just you wait. Yes, just you wait." Gilbuzz said with furious eyes while rubbing his hands together.

Lucan was feeling nervous. He needs to straighten up the situation and fast.

"NOBDY LEFT!!!!" Lucan screamed until the two finally stopped talking. "Look." He said pointing to the center of the arena.

The Lucan in the lane was still preparing the landscape.

"The rules said I couldn't leave the puppet, but I didn't. To leave somewhere you have to arrive their first. That orb thing only sent half my mind into the puppet."

The anger on Gilbuzz's face disappeared as Lucan continued.

"Isn't it unfair that you only sent half of my split mind into the game? How am I supposed to win when I am not even able to use my full ability?"

"Oh, ho, ho." Gil happily chuckled.

Ron spoke. "We will get your orb charged back up so you can send the rest of your mind. It should be ready in half an hour."

"Doesn't that give that guy extra time?" Lucan complained. "He still has an advantage."

Gilbuzz quickly agreed.

"Pah, listen to both of you trying to extort me. It's not my problem if Gil didn't prepare the proper equipment. That has nothing to do with me." Ronbellus said.

Lucan shrugged; it was worth a try.

The experience was not too strange for Lucan. His minds were still connected but it wasn't much different from controlling one of his phantoms while he was fighting. He normally did both those things at once. This was just different in the fact that he was controlling two real bodies and they each had their own health and mana.

The two devils went back to talking and ignored Lucan while his orb was being recharged.

Ron made sure not to mention anything about his sorcerer in front of Lucan no matter how hard Gil tried to mine for information.

Lucan sent a message to Silent.

[Lucan Quilldrake: Hell isn't all bad. I am about to play a live action MOBA game here. I am the final boss defending the core while five other players are going to try and push forward.]

[Silent Night: That sounds pretty fun. I spent the day leveling with Heaven.]

[Lucan Quilldrake: Why do I feel like you are going to level like crazy while I am away. *Sigh* I was finally catching up to you.]

[Silent Night: Ha, ha, are you embarrassed to be weaker than your wife?]

[Lucan Quilldrake: No way, but if anybody bullies me, you have to take care of them and protect your fragile husband.]

[Silent Night: He, he, okay, remember your words. Next time somebody bullies you, you can't go looking for trouble. You have to run home and come find me.]

[Lucan Quilldrake: On second thought…]

[Silent Night: No take backs.]

Lucan chatted with Silent and kept an eye on his opponent's half of the lane. When the orb was ready, he activated it and his second mind rejoined the first in the game world.

He finished a few last-minute changes. There was not much he could do, but he was able to move around the trees on the sides of the lane. He couldn't bring them to the center or build a wall, but he could change their grouping around the edges.

The start time soon arrived.

Five players appeared in front of Lucan. They stared down the lane towards their goal, the enemy core.

Suddenly words flashed on each players interface. Lucan prepared himself and got ready for the game to begin.
