Evolution: A Warlock’s Rise To Power

Chapter 173: Day At The Station

A young man walked into the police station followed by his good friend.

"Thanks again for helping my out, even though we should just leave him here."

"Don't worry about it. I know money is tight, you don't have to worry about paying me back. Besides, Uncle Lin always let me stay over when things weren't good at my home. How could I not return the favor when he needs it?"

The young man sighed and shook his head.

"This is the fourth time this year I have had to bail him out of the drunk tank. I am getting tired of this."

The desk sergeant recognized the young man when he walked up to the counter.

"Give me a minute. I will have the paperwork for your dad ready in a bit." Said the officer behind the counter.

"See, look at that. They already know me here without me even saying anything. That is a problem."

"I will help you have a talk with your dad once he sobers up. Don't worry, things will get better."

The young man just shrugged and took a seat with his friend while they waited for the paperwork to processed.

The young man noticed two officers bringing in a person through the side door.

"Hey mike, doesn't that look like…"

"Woah, that looks exactly like him. Do you think that is him?"

"Lucan!" The young man called out.

Brax looked up but didn't recognize anybody.

The two friends sat in the reception area, muttering to themselves.

"Wow, it really is Lucan Quilldrake. Quick snap a picture."

The young man stood up and blocked the view of the desk sergeant, standing between him and his friend. It wasn't illegal to take pictures inside of the police station, especially since they were in the reception area, but that didn't mean that the officers wouldn't give them a hard time for it.

"Okay, the paperwork is done. The fine for public intoxication is $250.00 dollars. Once you pay, your dad is free to go."

The young man paid the fine and then the two friends helped the older man into the car after he was released.

"That's crazy, I didn't think Lucan Quilldrake would live in the same city as us."

"I heard Heaven's Kiss also lives in Flower city." The young man looked at his phone. "This is insane, I only posted the picture on the forums a couple minutes ago and it already has over a thousand comments."

Holly had just got out of the shower and sat down at her computer. She was going through the messages on her fan club site. She always tried to respond to any comments that were positive. She learned long ago to ignore the negative comments.

She was taking cute photos for her fans that donated over $100.00 to her when she noticed that her inbox was filling faster than she was responding.

She put down her camera and went to go take a look.

-"Heaven, I love you. What happened to Lucan? Why is he in jail? Isn't he dating your sister?"

-"Did Silent and Lucan get in a fight? Was he dragged in for domestic disturbance? Marry me Heaven, let me spend my life serving you."

-"Heaven, do you know why Lucan was taking to the police station in cuffs?"

Holly quickly realized something was wrong and clicked the link in one of the messages she had received.

She pulled up an article on the Evolution forums.

[Lucan Quilldrake taken to the police station]

It even had a photo attached where he was clearly being dragged along while handcuffed by two officers.

Holly picked up her phone and called her sister. Jenna had left half an hour ago, all excited for her date with Brax. She had even spent a good potion of the morning, helping her sister pick out what to wear.

Jenna rushed out of the restaurant after making another call. Her driver hadn't gotten far. He quickly came back to pick her up.

She then rushed to the police station mentioned in the forum article.

Fifteen minutes later they arrived at the police station.

"Young miss, would you like me to accompany you in?" The driver asked.

"No, I will be fine." Jenna said as the chauffer held the door open for her.

"Please take care miss. These kind of places can be unruly. I will be out here if you need me."

Jenna blew past him, almost sprinting to the front door.

Walking inside she could already hear a commotion.

"What do you mean I can't see him? I am his family. What right do you have to stop me from seeing my baby?!"

Jenna was surprised to see Aunt Marie yelling at the desk sergeant.

"Aunty what is going on?" Jenna said as she ran up to Marie.

"Ah, it is good you are here dear." Marie said when she realized Jenna had come up beside her. "These jerks aren't letting me talk to Brax."

"Ma'am, like I said before. He was found with a large amount of drugs. This case has to be taken seriously. Until a judge sets a bail amount, only his direct family members and his lawyer are able to see him."

"That is bullcrap." Marie angrily said. "Brax would never be involved with drugs, and the boy's parents are dead. I raised him, but you won't let me see him because I didn't give birth to him. You all are crazy. Let me see Brax now if you know what is good for you!"

"Ma'am, please. I don't make the rules. There is nothing I can do. Go home, you will be notified once a bail amount has been set."

"Just you wait." Marie said angrily while Jenna pulled her away from the counter.

"What is happening? They said Brax was found with a large amount of drugs?" Jenna asked.

"Don't listen to these people. It must be some sort of mistake. Brax would never get involved in anything like that."

"Don't worry aunty, I know that he wouldn't do anything like that."

"Good, good." Marie said quietly.

Jenna could only look at Marie. Brax's Aunt was clearly worn out. She looked like she had been dealt a massive blow. Marie was anxiously wringing her hands together.

"Aunty, if they say we can't see him, then it would be best if you go home. I will let you know as soon as something happens. You should go back and rest."

"No way. I won't leave you here alone. My little Brax needs us. I just hope he knows that he is not alone."

Jenna frowned. She understood that Marie wasn't going to leave easily, which would make it a bit harder for her to see Brax.

She pulled out her phone and began to text her father and let him know what was happening. She hopped that he could use his contacts to get a judge to take a look at the case a bitt sooner. At least then they would be able to pay the bail to get him out.

A few minutes went by before Marie stood up again.

"Aunty?" Jenna asked.

"Don't worry, I will give them a good scolding until they let me see him."

Jenna built up her nerves and grabbed Mari's arm.

"What is it?"

"…There is something you don't know." Jenna said to Marie.

Brax's aunt started to panic. "What don't I know? Don't tell me that he really did this. I won't believe you."

Jenna shook her head. "No… It's…. Umm… Keep this to yourself."

Jenna let go of Marie and walked to the counter again.

"Let me see Brax Tomlin."

"Like I told the other lady earlier. Only direct family members or his lawyer can see him. Are you his lawyer?"

"No, b-."

"Then sit down. If you keep causing a ruckus you will be charged with disturbing the peace."

*Slam*

Jenna smacked her hand on the table.

"Don't give me that crap, I am his wife. Since when does his wife not count as a direct family member. Aren't you making things too difficult on purpose? I want to speak with your supervisor."

"Stop joking little girl. Go sit down."

Jenna pulled up a picture on her phone of Her and Brax holding their marriage certificate in front of city hall.

"Who are you calling little girl!" She said with a raised voice while showing him the picture. "I am abiding by your stupid rules and you still won't show me to my husband. What kind of tricks are you trying to play?"

"I, I, I… I am sorry ma'am. Please follow me. You can have fifteen minutes." The desk sergeant said after looking closely at the picture.

The officer motioned for her to follow him.

Jenna nervously looked back towards Marie to find her completely stunned.

"Good, good, hiding this from me. That punk really has some balls."

Jenna could tell that Marie was not too upset. She was angry with Brax, but when her vision turned to Jenna, it was like she was gazing upon the holy grail. She looked forward to welcoming this girl into their family.

"Aunty, go easy on Brax. I was the one that wanted to keep it a secret."

"There is no need to defend that hoodlum. I know that this isn't your fault. We should sit down and have a nice talk latter." Marie said to Jenna sweetly. Her tone and expression suddenly changed. "But tell that punk, he can't hide in hear forever. He will have to see me eventually."
