Chapter 104: Necklace of Deceit

‘Thank you, thank you’, Drako Yau said with speech bubbles and received the shards, then carefully lumped them together and placed them into his item bag.

Dakki shook her head and said, ‘I should be thanking you instead. It’s all thanks to you and your squad that we managed to defeat Nin. Anyways, the event’s over so we should be going. Let’s hope we’ll have the chance to cooperate again.’

‘Sure.’ Drako Yau looked at Dakki and replied with a speech bubble and a smiley emoji.

The Allurers players bade farewell to Drako Yau’s squad and used Return-to-City Scrolls to teleport back to Empyreon. Dakki was the last person remaining. She stared at the masked man, a myriad of emotions stirring within her.

Due to her Dancer class and her beauty, plenty of men had invited her over, some of which were people with great power and authority in real life. As long as she accepted one of their offers, she didn’t have to worry about anything the rest of her life—yet she rejected them all.

Single-handedly, she nurtured Allurers into a first rate guild. She had long since seen through the nasty side of men. Yet the man who now stood before him struck her mind and left a deep impression: how he blatantly ignored her lovely appearance, how he risked his life in a fight, and lastly the serious look he had when he was picking up the useless shards of his weapon. His actions moved her.

After hesitating for a moment, Dakki trotted over to Drako Yau, her bountiful chest wobbling as she ran. Zephyrwolf almost drooled at the sight.

‘Mask.’

‘What’s wrong?’ Drako Yau stared at her calmly.

Dakki took out a necklace from her item bag and offered it to him. ‘This is for you. Guess you could call it the reward for helping our guild defeat Nin.’

‘Oh?’ Drako Yau was a bit surprised as he received the necklace.

‘Epic accessory: Necklace of Deceit. Legends say that it was once owned by Loki, the god of deceit, who disguised as hundreds of humans and gods using the necklace. It is a treasure imbued with magical powers. Once equipped, one may freely change his or her voice, and none will be able to identify the pretender.’

The necklace was woven with colourful yarn to give off a folklore-ish vibe. In the centre, there was a thumb-sized totem with a clown face engraved onto it. Its appearance was somewhat odd and eerie to say the least.

Drako Yau was rather shocked upon inspecting the necklace’s attributes. This was a treasure on the same level of his Mask of the Hidden Dragon, though its use was somewhat different. It wasn’t an exaggeration to say it was even more powerful than his mask.

‘This is too precious, I cannot accept such a gift.’ Looking straight at Dakki, Drako Yau spoke without using the speech-to-text function.

Dakki was startled once she heard his voice—it belonged to a young man. She chuckled and quickly shook her head and said, ‘It certainly is precious, but it is wasted in my hands. I suppose you must be hiding your identity with your mask for a reason. If that’s so, the necklace can only show its full potential in your hands.’

Drako Yau turned silent; the necklace was a godsend for him. He had to conceal his identity for the sake of his own life. After thinking about it for a brief while, he nodded and equipped the necklace. He wasn’t the kind to act pretentious anyways.

‘Thank you.’

The voice came from the clown’s mouth. Its lips even moved as if it was actually speaking, which was quite freaky in a sense. After putting on the necklace, Drako Yau’s voice changed drastically. It wasn’t particularly sharp or deep, but it was way different from his original voice nonetheless.

The accessory was indeed very helpful; he could communicate a lot easier at the very least.

Dakki laughed and said, ‘Then you now owe me one.’ She then took a step forwards, her sweet fragrance wafting into Drako Yau’s nose. She lightly tapped the clown face hanging at his chest with her slender finger before tearing a Return-to-City Scroll.

‘This sly fox!’ Idyllic Poet tugged at Zephyrwolf’s ear while yelling. Zephyrwolf was still mesmerised by Dakki’s cute smile.

Greenstone who was standing in the rear also nodded in agreement, which was rare. ‘Mask, you have to be careful.’

Looking at how serious Greenstone was, everyone including Drako Yau laughed.

‘Pack up our stuff. Let’s get ready for the lottery.’

Drako Yau stood up after replacing his gear. Apart from Moon Gazer, his leggings were also worn out after rubbing against the ground and needed to be repaired before he could put them on.

Not that he needed to though—he levelled up to Level 20 after the event and could now equip Level 20 equipment. His current set of gear was starting to come up short anyways.

They gathered the firecrackers and distributed them evenly among the five of them. Each of them had gathered 200 or so firecrackers while farming a while back, and Nin dropped around 1000 firecrackers, meaning they each had 400 firecrackers now.

It was a shocking amount. For typical players, they were lucky if they had 10 firecrackers. With how many players there were in the popular levelling zones, there simply weren't enough monsters to go around.

Meanwhile, Drako Yau and his squad was at a desolate place where monsters spawned frequently; average players would have been annihilated before long. It couldn’t be said they were being unfair either. They were strong and willing to take risks, and they were now awarded with a proportional reward.

They glanced through the available lotteries and were unsure about how to go about pulling the lottery.

There were three modes. The first one was to use one firecracker at a time, and it was purely up to luck. The second one was to use 10 firecrackers at a time for an increased chance of hitting the jackpot. The final option was to burn through all firecrackers at once to proportionally increase the chance of hitting the jackpot.

Drako Yau shrugged and said, ‘Decide how you wanna pull the lottery yourselves. Remember to equip the title though.’

The five equipped their titles and stared at each other, with no one taking the initiative to pull the lottery first.

‘Alright! I’ll go first!’ Zephyrwolf patted his chest and fiddled with a firecracker. The next moment, fireworks shot out from his hand and exploded into a dazzling blaze in the sky. A beam of light descended from above and landed in front of him

‘Congratulations, you received 1 Health Potion.’

Everyone was speechless as they glared at Zephyrwolf.

‘Don’t be so loud if you’re just gonna use one firecracker.’ Idyllic Poet rolled her eyes, took out 10 firecrackers, and fired them all into the sky lavishly.

The fireworks from 10 firecrackers were much more magnificent as expected. Soon enough, a beam descended in front of her.

‘Congratulations, you received 1 Mana Potion.’

‘…’

‘What the hell is this!’ Idyllic Poet was mad.

They then continue to pull the lottery, but the prizes were nothing more than items like Health and Mana Potions, Return-to-City Scrolls, Temporary Strength Potions, and Temporary Intellect Potions.

‘What is with my cursed luck!’ Danting shrieked and fired off another 10 firecrackers into the sky. He had lost count of how many times he had pulled the lottery; he had used over 200 firecrackers already.

‘Congratulations, you received a Magic Crystal Orb.’
