The rain had stopped all of a sudden.

Satori thought the thing called an apartment was like small boxes piled up on top of each other. He thought that it was kind of strange that a lot of people actually lived inside that box. On top of it, Sousuke’s house was inside this building too.

“…Hey. Your mouth is wide open.”

Satori was gaping his mouth open when he saw the apartment. He hurriedly closed it when he was pointed out by Sousuke, who had already walked far in front of him.

“A-amazing. So you usually live in a place like this, Sousuke.”

(It’s just an ordinary apartment though, what’s so unusual about it…?)

“Hey, this way.”

After that, they got inside a long, narrow, small box-like thing, and Sousuke pushed a button located near the entrance. Satori was startled when the box started to rise vertically.

“So-so-sousuke. The box is moving upwards.”

When Satori was so startled that he almost fell over, Sousuke looked at him strangely.

“…Of course it’ll move upwards. I pushed the up button.”

(…Is this some kind of prank? It’s just a normal elevator. There’s no way someone never rode an elevator in this day and age. There won’t be any camera waiting for me once the elevator door opens, right?)

“I-I’m not surprised or anything! I’m fine!”

In response to Satori’s bravado, Sousuke only responded with a short “…is that so?” He didn’t comment any further. Satori told himself to calm down while soothing his heart, which was beating loudly. At this rate, Sousuke might think of him as a weird guy. However, the elevator stopped, and when the door opened, Satori widened his eyes once again.

In front of him, the view looked like stars were littered in the night sky.

“Sousuke, there are stars! We can see the stars! Sousuke, you should come here and see it too. It’s so beautiful.”

After Satori stepped out of the elevator, he leaned his body over the railing to look at the view below him. The stars that couldn’t be seen no matter how hard he looked up at the sky, were now spread out in front of him.

“It’s dangerous if you lean out like that.”

(…By stars, does he mean the night view?)

“Night view…?”

The next thing Satori knew, Sousuke’s voice could be heard so close to him. He ended up replying to Sousuke’s inner voice unconsciously. Sousuke was suddenly standing behind Satori, watching the night view together with him.

“Yeah. It’s a bit cloudy after the rain, but it’s so beautiful…”

(It’s been a while since I last looked at the night view.)

Satori’s heart was thumping hard. He was filled with joy when he noticed the tension had left Sousuke’s shoulder.

Sousuke’s house was a corner room on the eighth floor of the ten-story apartment building. Sousuke took a key from his pocket and opened the door to his house. He then turned on the lights.

“It’s a bit messy, but feel free.”

“E-excuse me.”

Satori suddenly felt nervous. It was the first time he had been invited to someone’s house. Moreover, it was Sousuke’s house.

With an awkward movement, Satori took off his shoes. (The shoes were ones he had picked up from a human who had thrown them away earlier. With them, his leg wouldn’t hurt even if he stepped on a pebble, nor would they get wet from the rain. Satori thought that it was a very convenient item. He stepped inside carefully.

The room was spacious, having been combined from two rooms into one without any threshold. There were dirty clothes scattered on the sofa, and a stack of unwashed dishes could be seen in the kitchen. There were books piled up on the floor, and the bedsheets were still in the same shape as it was in the morning. Satori was happy that he could feel Sousuke’s presence left in the room.

“Sorry, I’ve been a little busy lately and didn’t have the time to clean up…”

Sousuke handed a towel to Satori.

(It’s embarrassing that my messy room is being seen like this.)

Perhaps it was because of Satori looking around his room with great curiosity, but Sousuke blushed a little then hurriedly gathered up the clothes that were scattered on the sofa.

“What’s wrong? I don’t mind them at all.”

Even though Satori meant what he said, Sousuke got more and more embarrassed for some reason. He let out a big sigh and quickly took the clothes he was carrying and went somewhere.

(…It really wasn’t this messy usually.)

It was the first time Satori realized thatSousuke’s thoughts were like excuses. He questioned whether Sousuke really meant it or not.

Satori sat down on the sofa. Surprised by the comfortable cushion that felt like it was wrapping around his body, Satori hurriedly stood up and quietly sat down again. He thought that the chair felt as comfortable as if he were in a dream. When he jumped lightly while still sitting down, his body fell down to the side. Satori thought that it was fun.
