In Harry Potter as Neville Longbottom

Chapter 20: Dragon, Dean and Duel Club

After clearing my runes test, I was feeling happier. Now, it was the second week of February and what is the most important day for seniors this week. Well, it is valentine's day.

I had already taken permission to visit our shops in Hogsmeade as the lord of my house. My main intention was to send away the growing dragon girl in my suitcase. I can definitely keep her here but I needed her to be docile and friendly in future and spending time alone in the baby stage will not help that case.

My fund manager, Mr Kauff notified me of an empty island farm area available for purchase. No, not a dragon farm but a simple island that was once a herbal farm. Dragon farms are sold once in a decade so finding one when you need it, is near impossible in many cases until you are the son of lady luck.

Anyway, an empty island area will help my sweet dragon girl. I named her Diana, the princess of her own island. She will be my wonder woman I think. Her new home is currently empty but it will soon be filled with different birds and animals. I have already contacted our greek stores and other global stores to purchase a young male dragon and even asked for quotations from Asian and African stores.

Why not European families?

Well, no one likes a new power rising up and taking over their market. That is the same in our circle too. Buying a young dragon is too costly and requires approval from the ministry and all dragons are strictly controlled and monitored. So instead of spending huge time and money in a fruitless endeavour, I decided to go global with this. Anyway, no hurry in this.

After sending my suitcase and getting it back after an hour, I was feeling slightly sad. I had some good moments with my cute pet and it was definitely a good distraction from our lord saviour and his activities.

Back to Hogwarts, I noticed Dean talking to our charms professor, Professor Flitwick. Feeling curious, I just decided to ask him about it.

"What were you talking about with Professor Flitwick?" Listening to me, Dean suddenly showed a serious face.

"I want to become an auror like my father and uncle in the family. I want to learn how to duel from the professor. My uncle told me he is still famous in the duelling clubs all across the globe."

"Great. Nice idea. But Dean, a duel is a duel and not something any dark wizard will care about. Wizards learn hundreds of spells in their life but there are only three spells that the dark wizards use and there is one that can break any protection charm you know and end up killing you. What about them?"

My question made him shut up. I mean this whole wizard world had no logic in the basic sense. You learn a hundred spells, transfiguration spells, potions, runes and then boom "Avada Kedavra" and you are dead.

This killing spell is so simple to learn that there is hardly any challenge in it. It has no wand movement or anything and just needs your intent and that's it. You can kill the most knowledgeable Ravenclaw out there. So what was the point? There is no defence against it or any known armour curse that can deflect or stop it.

The only reason that dark wizards are not using it on large scale is killing in itself is a terrible curse and once you end up destroying a soul via magic, it will end up distorting or breaking your soul in return. This is a double edge sword that can result in huge self-harm and hence many dark wizards will not use it until their final breath.

But still, do death eaters care? nope. They have already sacrificed their soul for a cause they believe in and this will give them strong willpower to suffer the backlash.

"I don't know Neville. But you know I read the letters my uncle sent about my father and I found many things about him. The more I find out about him, the more I want to become like him.

You know I can't stop thinking what if he survived the war or what if he was still alive? .... I just....." Dean started crying in the hallway and I think this is the first time I felt someone can understand my pain. I gave him a tight hug and then patted him on his shoulder.

"This is not how you will become an auror in future. You know, I support your idea. I already asked gotten permission to create a duel club in Hogwarts but he said we can only do this in the second year. So, next year, I will start a duel club and you can join me. We will bring Seamus with us and he will our blast expert."

"...That makes sense I guess...He can make anything explode..." Dean replied while wiping his tears.

"Next year, we will be seniors and we will make our own club. Professor Flitwick supports the idea and trust me, it will be much better than any stupid Dark Arts class."

"I think you can do that You already manage your own house. I can't even understand how you can manage to read all those huge files I saw in your room."

"With help my friend. With the right help. Now let's go grab Seamus. He has been trying to get his charms right before the exams."

"Yeah! I think he should make his own versions of charms that can explode. He will easily pass the finals. He might even write a book on those in future and win the Merlin medal. Who knows!"

When Dean said this, it like opened new ideas for me. Yes! Seamus was failing in his charms. Out of 10 of the charms, almost 7 will fail, 2 will explode and only 1 will either work properly or just pass the bare minimum. What if he tries explosion charms intentionally and practises more spells on those? I can have all his spells as the base and improve them.

"You know what Dean. You might be just right about this. Let's go. He must be near Hagrid's hut. He likes to practise his charms near the forest boundary."
