1. The First Letter (52)

The midday academy was calm as always.

As always, I bought a drink at the teahouse in the student union building. Then, sucking on the straw, he leaned against the back of the chair.

A fragrant tea scent came up. It was a refreshing feeling, a smell that supplied new vitality to the brain that had been exhausted from long hours of training and study.

This was my daily life. A solid routine that didn’t break down even after attending the academy for three years. And as I spend such a day, one of the two would stick by my side.

Celine Heaster, or Leto Ainstern.

It was the same today. A man with slightly wavy brown hair and slightly tired green eyes sat across from me.

It was Leto, my childhood friend and one of my best friends. He was still looking at me with bewildered eyes.

“So, what does that Yurdina bastard say?”

“You didn’t say anything? My face was cold, so I didn’t say a word until we parted.”

Oh, a sigh escaped from Leto’s mouth after hearing my words. He wiped his face with both hands. From Leto’s reaction, I was able to get a rough idea of the situation.

I was wrong. Sure enough, a bruise burst from Leto’s mouth.

“Hey, I can’t reassure you… … ! You can get into trouble later.”

“… … Is it a big deal?”

At my bewildered question, Leto bent his upper body as if telling a secret story. and whispered to me

“If a woman becomes obsessive, you never know what she will do.”

At the same time, Leto trembled as if he remembered even a terrifying memory. Of course, it was a warning that didn’t inspire me at all.

Is that Seria Yurdina?

Even when sparring with me, she showed her gaps because of her aversion to violence. How good would it be if something big happened?

I laughed and shook my head.

“Don’t worry, it won’t happen. What a nice girl Seria is… And again, it must be because it’s the first friend I made. The more friends you have, the better you will become.”

Despite my rebuttal, Leto still only looked at me with subtle eyes. He folded his arms, closed his eyes, and groaned.

He tilted his head left and right, then opened his mouth in a hesitant voice.

“Hey you… Mmmmm, yes. Let’s say yes.”

Leto cut off what he was saying to himself and immediately looked at me with benevolent eyes. He started shaking his head to himself.

“Yeah, that’s how you learn while burning. I’m rooting for you, dude.”

“I don’t know what that means, but yes. okay.”

Leto and I enjoyed the peace of the day, having our usual fruitless conversation.

No matter how much I think about it, I’ve been doing too much lately. Ever since I lost my memory, once or twice a week it felt like an incident was happening.

It was enough for me to just graduate from the academy, but suddenly I became a celebrity at the academy.

I also felt a little strange. And more than that, I felt tired. I have been through a lot of hard work lately, both mentally and physically.

In particular, one of my concerns recently was Celine.

I glanced at Leto.

“Come to think of it, how is Celine these days?”

“Ohhh,” Leto burst out laughing at my question. And he looked at me with proud eyes.

“Are you still a bit concerned?”

“No, we ran into each other briefly yesterday, but it must be very chilly.”

Leto giggled as I confessed yesterday in a timid voice. Seeing Celine and I fighting was pretty fun.

He was a wizard-like Simbo living in a closet. “Ha,” I sighed.

Celine, whom I met on the street yesterday, was colder than ever. She glanced at me, then stuck out her tongue and made a bee- sound.

That was the end. Celine just left with a hum.

I wonder if this is how the winter tree feels in the frost. I had to engrave in my heart the bitter feeling of being abandoned by a girl like my sister.

However, contrary to my complex state of mind, Leto did not seem to be very concerned.

He looked at my gloomy complexion and then burst into laughter. He shrugged as he put the glass he was holding on the table.

“Don’t worry, he’ll be very nervous right now.”

“… … Why should Celine be nervous?”

When I asked back in bewilderment, Leto just clicked his tongue. he pointed at me and said

“You say, you’re nervous.”

In the end, I had no choice but to shrug my shoulders. As a child, my sister taught me to skip questions that are difficult to answer. Being a gifted merchant in her own way, she was usually right.

Leto only shook his head as if he knew that would happen despite my silent reply. He was lost in thought for a while, then suddenly he seemed to have a question.

He asked me, who was silently sucking on a straw. It was a question filled with pure doubt.

“Hey, come to think of it, I heard you’re participating in the hunting festival?”

“yes? uh, uh right… I want to participate with Seria.”

I stuttered for a moment at the sudden question, then nodded in response. It was nothing to hide. Rather, isn’t it a position where you should actively seek Leto’s help?

Leto tilted his head as if he still didn’t know what I was thinking.

“What is Jo Won going to do?”

“Yeah… … .”

I scrutinized Leto’s eyes. One notice was Leto, who was quick as a ghost. I didn’t know what kind of intention my eyes contained.

Leto’s eyebrows narrowed at once. His eyebrows twitched and moved. As if representing his uncomfortable feelings.

“no way… I’m not one of them, you crazy bastard?”

“Leto… … .”

I looked at Leto with desperate eyes. Then Leto trembled as if he had a seizure. Whether it was or not, I recommended him with eyes full of trust.

“… … Even if you die, you decided to die one day at one time. Let’s go together.”

Leto’s reaction was, frankly, not good. A harsh sound came straight out of his mouth.

“No, you madman! I am a theory wizard!”

“But what can I do, I have no one to trust except you!”

As Leto noticed, the candidates I thought of were him and Celine.

Although I was worried about the relationship between Seria and Celine, they were the only two people I could trust and entrust my back to.

And above all, participating in a hunting festival meant risking one’s life. Even so, it was more difficult to find someone who was faithful enough to believe in me and follow me.

Perhaps it was something he had to hunt for a named-level monster. No matter how much risk we shared, it wasn’t enough. I couldn’t even tell you why. Even unfounded words needed a trustworthy colleague.

However, Leto’s seizures continued despite my continued coercion. His head was shaken violently.

“No no… I can’t do this no matter how much you ask.”

I bit my lip at Leto’s desperate refusal. Things shouldn’t be messed up already. I said to comfort him.

“Even if you’re a theoretical wizard, you can use magic if you have time, right?”

“That’s a problem because it takes so damn long, dude! Besides, how much preparation do you need to make magic circles and circuits? Would you be able to respond one by one in that urgent battle situation? It’s not like there’s a division between battle mages and theory mages for nothing!”

I see, I had no choice but to sigh at Leto’s words.

In fact, even if Leto was a wizard, he was far from combat. It was because he was a kind of wizard called a ‘theoretical wizard’.

They were mainly interested in research, magic circles, and artifacts. In addition to applying magic to everyday life, it was the theoretical wizards who led magic engineering. Most of the aristocratic torture wizards who used their powers also belonged to this type.

However, they had one fatal flaw. Because he was so engrossed in research, he was unable to use much of his strength in combat.

It was impossible to draw a magic circle leisurely during a battle. Of course, in places like large-scale wars, theoretical magicians exert great power, but since the war of conquest of the empire, there have been only a handful of wars of that level.

That’s why wizards specialized in combat were created separately, and they were the ‘battle wizards’.

They were wizards specialized in responding to various situations with high-speed chanting and various types of magic. Given time, they were also welcomed everywhere because they could project enormous firepower unique to wizards.

However, being welcomed anywhere also meant that it was difficult to find workers because there was such a high demand.

So did I. There were a few battle mages he knew, but they weren’t close friends. That’s why I tried to recruit Leto by crying and eating mustard.

I couldn’t help it if I refused so stubbornly. It was something I did not know if I would risk my life. You couldn’t force a choice on the basis of friendship.

Dark clouds hung over my face. A murmur like lament flowed out of nowhere.

“Write, then what should I do… Even so, there must be at least one wizard… … .”

Then Leto seemed to feel a bit sorry, and he cleared his throat and averted my gaze. It felt like my depressed mood was contagious.

For a moment there was silence between Leto and me. While I was looking through the connections I had built up so far in my head, I suddenly heard Leto’s voice.

“… … Hey, there is one.”

My puzzled gaze turned to Leto. There was a strangeness in his eyes. It meant that he had come up with a crazy idea.

He even looked a little excited, but he told me, trying to hold back a giggle.

“You, just do as I say. Then I can get a wizard.”

“… … ?”

Eventually, I decided to follow my best friend’s advice.

**

With a thump, the sight of a student being pushed against a wall caught my attention in the corner. A small girl stood in front of him, and two tall men were waiting on either side of her.

The student who was pushed against the wall of the alley seemed frightened. I could tell just by looking at his trembling body. He was a skinny man, but judging from his lack of muscle, at least he wasn’t a swordsman.

The petite girl looked like a doll. That brown hair, blue sapphire eyes, and immaculate skin were the same.

But she was so lovable, she had a cruel smile that didn’t match her appearance in the slightest.

“Hey, are you comfortable with me?”

A low, menacing voice. The lips were drawn in an arc, but the eyes were not at all.

Those eyes that glistened with hostility harbored a bloody light, as if they were going to tear the man in front of them to death at any moment.

Hee-ik, the man screamed and clung to the wall even more. Seeing this, the lovely-looking girl burst into laughter as if it were absurd.

“Are you okay with Elsie Rainella, saying that she looked ugly in front of others not too long ago? What is ‘pissing’… Really!!!”

It was a girl who seemed to be trying to keep talking in her own way, but from a certain point on, she couldn’t calm down at all, so a shout came out of her mouth.

The girl’s body trembled. Her hand gripped the man’s collar roughly. Hook, and the man’s upper body bent.

Facing the man’s trembling eyes in fear, Elsie-senpai gritted her teeth.

“Do you think I’ve become a dick just because I was robbed once?! Do you think you can’t stand one, huh?!”

“Oh, no… … .”

“It’s not, so why do you keep saying sh*t like that? Is it because you want to be f*cked? Ahaha… I will turn around, really.”

Then the girl wiped my face with both hands. In those eyes, fatigue and pain that could not be hidden were buried. The past few days seemed to have been a great ordeal for her.

With tired eyes, she generated an electric current that crackled in her hands.

The fear in the man’s eyes deepened even more. He shuddered and tried to escape from the girl’s grip, but unlike her petite body, the girl’s strength was beyond his imagination.

Even magicians risked their lives on the battlefield to survive. Although his body was weak compared to the Faculty of Swordsmanship, he was able to strengthen his body to some extent.

A wizard as good as a girl could overwhelm a weak adult man. Even so, if you get caught by a swordsman of a similar level, you’ll be shattered in an instant.

Unfortunately, the skinny man wasn’t a swordsman, so there was no way to escape the girl’s grasp.

With a smile, the girl smiled beautifully. It was a cute and lovely smile that would give a man facing him a prick in his heart.

If it wasn’t for the nasty words that came out of his mouth.

“I was robbed by that bastard once, what the f*ck are you peeing on? Hey, do you think I’ll lose if I fight that bastard again?”

“Oh no!”

The man shouted as if the question was the only rope. After that, the girl let out a deep breath.

“okay? Do you know So please be patient.”

“… … ?”

In a daze, the man’s eyes turned to the girl. The girl smiled again.

“From now on, I’m going to get on your nerves with this electric current? As you know, magic control is important for wizards… I am amazingly good at such fine control. damn, damn it hurts But don’t scream, okay?”

The man’s eyes were stained with despair. He shuddered so pitifully that he looked as if he would collapse on the spot. But he wasn’t even allowed to sit down.

Pak, the girl pushed the hand that was holding the man’s collar as if she was tired of it. The man almost collapsed, but his arms were grabbed by the two figures waiting next to the girl.

“Exactly, 10 seconds. It seems like I’m going to fall behind, but… Be patient though, okay? If you scream in the middle… … .”

Walking slowly, the girl approached the weeping man. The electricity on her hand shone bright blue. A crackling, crackling sound.

“… … Do it again from the beginning, remember. I will keep my promise.”

“Uh, uhhhh!”

Even if the man screamed and struggled, there seemed to be no way to escape the violence. Tears flowed from his eyes. A gesture of despair, the girl looked at it and raised the corner of her mouth as if she was enjoying it.

yes, that’s how it should be Of course, if you see me, you should be like this.

It was a glimpse of such thoughts in his eyes. So I couldn’t stand it any longer.

“… … Senior Elsie.”

At my low call, senior Elsie looked back annoyedly. She turned around with ferocious eyes and called out to me.

“What an ignorant piece of sh*t, a piece of cake… go… … .”

And froze on the spot. The blue electric charge on her hand immediately dissipated. The bulging emerald eyes spoke of the horror she must be feeling now.

Silence prevailed. The student who was being threatened by senior Elsie looked bewildered, and the two big guys who were holding him looked at me and stiffened their bodies.

I thought for a moment. What did Leto say at this time, yes.

Without saying a word, my hand went to her waist. Elsie’s legs started to tremble. reaction like instinct.

Before long, a hatchet was pulled out of my hand.

Elsie-senpai higgled and hiccupped. Her eyes shook violently, and even her upper body trembled pathetically. If left as it is, it looked precarious as if it would collapse at any moment.

Eyes wet with fear, and a face that looked as if it was about to burst into tears.

It seemed to scare me more than necessary.

So I deliberately gave her a kind smile to reassure her.

“Shall we talk?”

Elsie-senpai’s face became pale.
