Monster Hunting High School

Chapter 5 The Professor’s Opening Remarks

The courses of Daiichi University are divided into large courses and small courses according to the number of students. They are also divided into school-wide courses and professional courses according to different professional levels. They are also divided into compulsory courses and elective courses according to the importance of the courses.

Zheng Qing's class is Astronomy Class 08-1. Correspondingly, the magic class is a required course for their major.

The history class extended by Magic Texts is a professional elective course - this means that the book list for each freshman in Astronomy Class 08-1 is slightly different.

Another example is the philosophy of magic, which is not compulsory in Alpha Academy and Starry Sky Academy and is a school-wide elective course. In order to save corresponding teaching resources, the school will arrange students from different colleges or classes to attend classes together. This kind of course is a large class, and sometimes there are hundreds of students in the class.

Another example is the Charms class that is about to start. Any student at First University needs to obtain enough credits in this class, which is a compulsory course for the entire school.

The students in this class all belong to Astronomy Class 08-1, which is a small class.

After receiving the warning from the pencil drawing on the back of the door, the noisy atmosphere in the classroom calmed down slightly.

Everyone returned to their seats and sat down quietly.

Zheng Qing looked at the pencil drawing curiously, wondering:

"How did it know the professor was coming?"

"It has stayed on the wall longer than many professors. It is not surprising to know what the professor looks like." Xiao Xiao put away his notebook and sat up slightly: "Besides, you thought that this was the only place where the painting ended up. Do you want to order?”

Zheng Qing nodded in understanding.

"Thank you to our omnipotent seniors." Zhang Jixin shook his head and patted his shoulder.

Zheng Qing sighed and returned his attention to the textbook that had been spread out in front of him.

He previewed the characters that he couldn't understand at all, trying to struggle a little more before the teacher came in to avoid being too ugly in class.

However, I still can’t understand it.

His eyes slid across the textbook, leaving no trace in his mind.

The classroom door was pushed open with a bang.

A tall and thin figure walked onto the podium with long strides.

Zheng Qing raised his head and looked nervously at this imposing man.

The professor was wearing a black robe and his sleeves were fluttering, giving people a strange feeling. He has a yellow complexion and a pair of small, but very dark and bright eyes. There were many wrinkles of varying depths on his face, and although his hair was a bit sparse, it seemed that he had used a lot of hair wax and the like to make it smooth. Although he is somewhat hunched over, the professor's tall stature conceals this flaw and gives people a sense of reliability.

Maybe forty, maybe sixty, maybe God knows how old he is.

Zheng Qing sat at the table with his head raised and chest out, thinking wildly in his mind.

"My name is Yao Xiaomi. I am your counselor and also the professor of your spells class. I also teach the philosophy of magic to three classes including you."

The wizard with a slicked back hair faced the new students in the classroom. With a casual wave of his right hand, the three characters 'Yao Xiaomi' were clearly displayed on the blackboard.

Without pausing, he continued with a smile but a very measured tone:

"You can call me 'Lao Yao'. In fact, I am very happy that some classmates call me this very relaxed name. However, I firmly oppose any classmates calling me 'Xiaomi', or even derive other names such as 'Sorghum', Calls like 'Old Rice' are extremely disrespectful to the professor!"

As he spoke, he made several heavy movements with his right hand from top to bottom, very much like those politicians on TV.

Zheng Qing couldn't help but curl up the corner of his mouth. Seeing Lao Yao You's actions, his heart suddenly felt a little relaxed.

But many freshmen are still immersed in the sadness caused by the big news not long ago.

The atmosphere in the classroom is a bit dull.

Professor Yao raised his eyebrows in surprise:

"It's strange! You are the first class of freshmen who didn't laugh when you heard my self-introduction. Is there anything I don't know about Melpomene's sigh? Don't let me become Epimetheus."

The classroom was still quiet.

Only Li Meng's quiet sobs could be heard faintly.

Zheng Qing looked at Xiao Xiao, his face turned pale. He was horrified to find that he didn't understand most of the last words the professor said.

"Did the teacher recite a spell just now?" He asked Xiao Xiao in a low voice.

Xiguatou lowered his head weakly and pushed the notebook in front of Zheng Qing.

"Melpomene, the goddess of lament, is also called the goddess of tragedy; her sigh means 'what a tragedy'. Epimetheus, the stupidest god, means 'the one who knows later'. This is the wizarding world Two sayings, not mantras.”

Zheng Qing's heart dropped back into his stomach.

He has been worried that he cannot understand the school teacher's lectures.

It feels good to have a living dictionary.

On the podium, Professor Yao placed the Dharma book on the podium and walked slowly to Li Meng.

"What happened?" He patted the little girl's head gently.

Li Meng's eyes were red and she was sobbing. She replied intermittently: "Su... Hi... Su Shijun... has... Hi... has a child."

Zheng Qing buried his head on the desk, trying his best to avoid touching the eyes of others.

He wanted to plug his ears too.

Li Meng's words made him feel like he was having an embarrassing cancer attack.

He couldn't understand the little girl's star-chasing mentality.

It is even more difficult to understand their mentality of interweaving fantasy and reality.

Professor Yao nodded thoughtfully:

"Don't be anxious or worried about Representative Su's matter." The professor walked slowly in the classroom and comforted: "There is only one vague message about this matter so far, and there is no clear statement yet. The school's October Councilor Su has been invited to the event as a guest, and I will ask her to explain it to you in person!"

As he spoke, the professor waved his arm domineeringly.

"Will she come?" a new student asked quietly.

This is a rhetorical question that is not very respectful, but this question is rolling in every freshman's mind.

It's a bit ridiculous no matter how you think about it, asking a senator from the Lower Moon Assembly to answer personal questions to a group of freshmen in person.

"No problem!" Lao Yao answered with certainty and returned to the podium: "I can still be sure of this."

The haze in the classroom gradually faded.

The knowledge of face-to-face contact with the goddess in October dispelled the nightmare of the goddess giving birth.

Energy is returning among these young people.

"Can I ask the goddess to sign my clothes?"

"Can I give the goddess a scarf?"

"Can I shake hands with the goddess?"

"What should I wear to meet the goddess!"

Almost everyone began to excitedly discuss the unfounded things that would happen a month later.

Many people began planning every detail of their meeting with the goddess.

Fatty Xin in front of Zheng Qing was even considering whether to lose dozens of pounds of fat to prevent him from leaving a bad impression on the goddess.

Lao Yao looked at the noisy classroom with a smile, showing no intention of stopping him.

for a long time.

He coughed lightly.

"Ahem." Professor Yao looked at the newcomers with a smile: "Except for today's class, you still have four classes left."

The classroom suddenly became quiet.

Everyone stared closely at the professor, trying to understand what he meant.

"I will teach you two spells this month. Only students who have completely mastered these two spells can get tickets to the meeting."

Seeing that the classroom was about to fall into chaos again, Professor Yao raised his index finger and shook it slightly.

"Don't be messy." He shook his head slightly, with a malicious smile on his face: "Don't be messy."

"You must show some performance this month. For example, good classroom discipline and excellent after-school homework."

"This is the premise of the meet-and-greet."

The classroom suddenly fell silent.

Zheng Qing noticed that some of the boys next to him even straightened up and tried to sit upright.

He swallowed, admiring the professor's simple move.

Lao Yao looked at the restored classroom atmosphere with satisfaction and started teaching again:

"Very good! I hope you keep it up."

"Then, let's continue."

"This is your second class at First University."

"Put away your Dharma books. In the first month, you will have to adapt more. There may be some experimental teaching, but overall, it won't be too difficult. So, you don't need to be too nervous."

Zheng Qing let out a heavy breath and quickly put away the textbook at hand, feeling more relaxed all over.

"You don't need to start studying right away. You must first adapt to the atmosphere, get familiar with your classmates, know why you are here, and understand what you can get here."
