Primordial Dimensions

Chapter 347: Overestimated

The sudden attack from the sideline attracted the attention of the other commanders, only for the next one to be taken out in a similar fashion.

Shane was able to shoot arrows at a frightening accuracy and a rapid speed, while Princess Ilya and Umbra could shoot hundreds of darkness spears within a minute.

Their only issue was to aim properly over a long distance which they hadn't practiced much before.

As such, Shane's arrow guided their spears, as they copied the impact his arrow had once he released the bowstring.

Thus, the attacks of all three found their target almost every single time.

Meanwhile, Cosmo had already sliced apart several low Expert stage opponents. Blood splattered on his silver shining fur, painting him crimson.

The endless attacks of magic bolts were also noticeable and every few seconds another batch of 5,000 bolts was released at the shocked army of the Ara race.

They hadn't expected to face such tremendous resistance from long-ranged weapons that were forbidden by the world's voice at that!!

This was shocking, but even more so was that their commanders, whom they heavily relied on and listened to, were being slaughtered like guinea pigs.

The Ara army had evenly spaced all of their commanders, with each of them leading a small platoon in order to maintain discipline.

However, when the third commander had received an onslaught of six attacks that had the might to kill everyone around them leaving no way out, panic began to spread in the soldiers.

The crossbow attack was already enough to instill fear in them, and it was only the existence of the commanders that allowed the demon blood addict Aras to remain calm.

Now that they were targeted and killed one after another, the army's morale plummeted, and the discipline everyone had put much effort in was dispersing.

Not even a full minute had passed before the weakened Army of the Ara race had finally appeared in front of the rebuilt city walls, only to notice that they couldn't pass through it as easily as expected.

They had wanted to activate the skill [Peruse] they had received from the devil seed in order to breach the city wall and enter the city without any issue.

However, how could they have known that Shane had ordered his inscribers to engrave [Skill distortion] runes into the city wall?

Since he had found out that nobody originating from the system should be able to use skills, Shane had assumed that this was a secret clue given to everyone who listened intently to the city lord's information.

Some would think that the city lord was a simple AI, or comparable to an NPC, but was that really the case?

Shane doubted this, but there was no way he could rule out the possibility.

In the end, he didn't really care whether they were real living beings or simple illusions, AI's or something completely different.

What mattered was solving the mission with the highest possible completion rate.

As such, using every single piece of information one obtained in order to rule out possible disadvantages that might occur, Shane had given the necessary instructions to his inscribers.

Other than the [Skill distortion] runes that could prevent skills from being executed, it was just their utilization of certain skills that had been made more difficult.

Along with the [Skill distortion] rune, [Mana interference] runes and a few other runes had been engraved inside the city wall, that prevented anyone in the vicinity from using any type of skills.

This ensured that the demons were unable to use any skills, however, they didn't have any, to begin with.

Owing to this, Shane had used every means to turn this disadvantage into an advantage, and it seemed to have worked perfectly.

Because of that, the mana-sphere crossbows' supremacy was proven once again, and it was only when the first commander had jumped across the distance of several meters in order to reach the top of the wall, that the situation had been altered.

The Aras didn't panic despite the fear within them, hoping that the adventurer team would take care of the commanders as they had promised.

While the Ara, whose head was suddenly enveloped by the image of a devil's face, focused on his army and realized that they had been hunted down by the mass of magic bolts that rained on them in a batch every few seconds, he hadn't noticed what had happened to five commanders.

Only when he sensed death approaching him at a rapid pace, did he notice two arrows, two darkness spears, and two light spears that suddenly exploded, nearly blinding everyone in the surroundings.

Dazzled by the light, the devil-faced Ara commander didn't get enough time to react.

He was distracted by the sudden light, only to be pierced through by two arrows that released a second impact, violently shaking him followed by two highly compressed darkness spears that finished him.

Time passed slowly, and the interesting part of the battle began when the last commander had been killed.

Cosmo, who had turned crimson red, had returned to Shane and Umbra, only to bring them right into the center of the battlefield, where nobody except Shane, Umbra, and Cosmo were fighting at a closer range.

The rebuilt walls had been heavily damaged by the enraged Ara, whose eyes were glowing in faint runes.

It was as if they wanted to activate a skill, but were unable to do so.

However, just before they had been able to create a small hole into the quickly built city wall, a huge, horned darkness snake with a length of 130 meters appeared in front of them.

Without wasting any time, Umbra slithered in front of the city wall, crushing anyone who dared to be in his way before he released fog conjured out of darkness.

The demons were blindly shooting through the darkness, trying to hit their opponents, while Umbra had returned to manifesting numerous darkness spears.

As he continued to shoot them at the strongest opponents, the number of soldiers from the Ara army was declining at a rapid pace.

The Ara race had taken the lesser demons too lightly. They hadn't expected them to own mana-sphere crossbows, a wall preventing them from passing through with their devil inherited skill, or that someone was strong enough to hunt down their commanders as if they were nothing but flies.

Whether they had underestimated their opponents or overestimated their own capabilities, in either case, the Ara race's defeat was shameful, and nothing would change that.

From losing their only means to implant a devil seed into their newborns, to the death of more than 200,000 soldiers, the Ara race had turned into a kingdom that was in an extremely pitiful and weakened state.

Shane had to acknowledge that nobody would have expected Deux to rebuild their walls, receive almost 10,000 mana-sphere crossbows, and a team that could kill the strongest commanders the Ara race had, in just a matter of three days!

As such, he couldn't help but shake his head as he beheaded the weak Aras one after the other.

They were shocked, but from desperation, there was no sight. Only their greed for the blood of demons was apparent, and their obsessive addiction spread through the rows of Aras, reaching the demons that couldn't help but feel fear instilling within them.

Despite winning the warfare in an overwhelming manner, it was impossible to not be afraid of the Ara race's greed to devour them entirely!
