Starting Life as a Baron

Chapter 3: Constructing a Dragon Nest

Alan returned to his bedroom while holding the dragon. He forced his excitement back in his heart, but tossed and turned for a while before being able to sleep. He awoke early the next morning to the dragon licking his face.

“Hmm, are you awake?” Alan asked when he opened his eyes and saw the dragon.

The dragon roared twice and then looked down towards her stomach, which Alan took to mean that she was hungry. After signing a contract with the little one, he instantly understood the dragon’s thoughts.

“Are you hungry?” Alan asked with raised eyebrows.

After dealing with his excitement from last night, he now had some problems to face. He had to figure out what this little guy would eat. Alan did not dare take the dragon outside with him, as she was a creature that could create or destroy an entire country. This was something that many powerful people would be jealous of.

Once news traveled that Alan had a dragon, everyone would have prying eyes on him. He was afraid that many people would swarm to him and both he and Rose would disappear in a breath.

“Damn, what should I do now?” Alan’s face was slightly anxious. He did not want his ambition to dominate the world to be destroyed as soon as he began.

“The host can use the System to build a dragon’s nest for the young dragon, and it will automatically expand when needed,” the System pinged.

“Huh? This is a thing?” Alan said overjoyed and immediately chose to build the nest.

Alan suddenly felt something was wrong. It should cost money to build the nest. A prompt then sounded in response to his worries.

“It will cost one thousand gold coins to build the primary dragon nest. Do you wish to build it?”

Alan’s face contorted a little, but after seeing the beautiful and noble dragon cub in front of him, he immediately made up his mind.

“Build the nest!”

Alan was a descendant of the Bramble Flower family. Even if his cheap dad was ruthless, he had not failed to give him some support. When Alan left, the Earl had given him five thousand gold to maintain a normal life as a baron for ten years.

A thousand gold coins immediately disappeared, which made Alan feel somewhat distressed. Soon, the System notified him that the nest had been built, and a row of small characters appeared on the interface.

Building: Primary Dragon Nest 1

Alan focused his gaze on the building and noticed that it was made out of light blue crystals in the shape of a valley.

“This is… the dragon nest?” Alan said, stunned.

“The System will automatically construct a dragon nest suitable for the young dragon according to its attributes. The System has also determined that the dragon’s attribute is water,” the System notified.

The System seemed to explain away any doubts that Alan had in his mind. He looked down at the young dragon in his arms, who was staring at everything around her with wide eyes. She fluttered her wings and then flew away from Alan and landed in the nest. She looked very cheerful.

“It seems that she likes the nest a lot,” Alan said with a smile.

Alan felt that the thousand gold was well spent.

“The primary dragon’s nest can accelerate the growth of young dragons,” the System sounded once again.

Alas had a more and more satisfied look on his face. This was the value of money. Alan tried to enter the nest and found that he was the only one who could see and enter it. He was relieved because of this. When the dragon grew up, Alan would be the youngest dragon knight in the world!

“Little one, this will be your home from now on. When I get rich, I will get you a bigger home,” Alan told the dragon with a smile.

Since this was a young dragon’s nest, there must also be an adult dragon nest. However, with Alan’s current resources, he could not afford it. But when his territory developed, he would be able to get as much money as he wanted.

“But there is one more thing I almost forgot. You need a name too, otherwise, I will keep calling you little one.”

Alen toughed the dragon’s body.

“Since you are a water dragon and look like a little blue gen, then I will call you Safi. It is short for Sapphire.”

As Alan said this, Safi’s eyes lit up and she nuzzled Alan’s arm to express her satisfaction with her name.

“Okay. I will prepare some food for you now. You can rest here for a while.”

Alan quickly left the dragon’s nest. As he stood in his bedroom, his eyes were no longer confused and unwilling, but now had firmness and expectations in his eyes. He pulled the bell beside him and a maid outside the door came in and helped him change his clothes.

After getting dressed, Alan had breakfast and asked the servants to prepare some extra barbecued meat for Safi. He brought the meal to her and then set his sights on the first quest that the System issued last night,

“Visit the territory. The reward is one hundred experience points and a Nature Spirit,” the System said.

Alan’s heart rose to his throat in excitement. After the previous prompts, he knew how to use the System. He also knew what the experience points could do. They could increase his level like a video game, but he did not know what the effect of that would be.

Alan guessed that it had something to do with his strength. In addition to experience, the mission also rewarded a Nature Spirit. This gave Alan another surprise. If a dragon founded a nation that could suppress other nations, then a Nature Spirit is the foundation of a little lord!
