The Blue Eyes

Chapter 10 - I FOUND YOU

The black sky was veiled by countless stars. The Carina, Centaurus, and Crux constellations were visible. The moon peeking through the thin clouds bashfully. Its light was like a laser, penetrating the Cirrus to reach the Earth.

The beautiful sky was like a giant umbrella above the deserted island, an island that was uninhabited by humans. Dozens of human-like creatures circled a large bonfire. Accompanied by the sound of the waves as a back sound, they chatted with each other happily while enjoying the fresh raw meat.

It was a regular monthly gathering of werewolves, just like humans who also often had an agenda for gathering and socializing. It was not a special meeting, just an ordinary meeting to chat and eat raw meat together. The meat was not human meat, it was just meat of wild animals which they caught earlier.

They didn't dare to take the risk of hunting humans just like they did years ago. They loved human meat, but they had to keep lowkey for now to protect their existence.

Kris was also there with his father. They weren't talking since his father was busy with his activity. Yes, his old man was busy eating the bloody fresh meat. He didn't bother to cook it first and preferred to eat it raw.

"How are you observing the city? Is that child the one in the prophecy?" His father finally broke the silence between them after he finished his bloody meal.

Kris did not immediately answer. He was still busy grilling a chicken on the hot and glistening bonfire. His father, Mike, noticed what he was doing but could only let out a tired sigh. For several years, Kris refused to eat raw wild animal meat and preferred to eat cooked chicken or fish.

His very close life with humans made him change drastically, including his taste in food. Mike had repeatedly forced Kris to go back to eating raw meat, but Kris always refused and kept doing his weird habits like a human.

"Her name is Blue, and she is indeed the child in your dream, Dad," Kris finally answered.

A pleased smile materialized on Mike's wrinkled face after hearing his only son's answer. "Are you sure? Why can you be so sure like that?" He asked again.

Kris calmly started blowing on the grilled meat which was now perfectly cooked. "I saw with my own eyes when she first got that power. She will be 17 years old soon, and it looks like the power is starting to rise even though she can't control it yet. She can't even disguise her striking eye color," he explained, then silently began to enjoy the grilled chicken in his hand.

Now, Mike didn't just merely smile, but he laughed out loud as he got up from his seat. "Hi, my people!" The man said loudly while looking at the faces of his people one by one. "Soon, our true leader will come back to us. That's the time when we will gain immortality and immense power to conquer mankind!"

The werewolves cheered with joy at their leader's words. They then danced and sung happily around a large bonfire which witnessed their party. They had been waiting in the dark for nearly seventeen years, and now they finally saw the light of hope. The news was worth celebrating.

Kris did not join in and just watched them with a small smile on his thin lips. He was the one who gave the good news to his people. The news was like rain in a barren land, was like breeze on a hot day.

His memory wandered over to the incident that happened a few days ago when Blue first gained her power but had not yet been able to control that great power. Instead of controlling, Blue was being controlled.

At that time, Kris was secretly observing all the events from a distance. He chose not to interfere because he wanted to see what Blue's true power looked like. Until finally, his eyes could directly witness the appearance of Blue's extremely powerful blue aura.

Even though that power had not yet fully emerged, Kris could feel how strong Blue's powers were. If Blue managed to fall into their hands, there was no doubt that they would win against mankind even if they were outnumbered.

When he was still pondering about everything, the cellphone inside his pants pocket suddenly vibrated. He reached into his pocket and fished out the ultra-thin, sophisticated object from inside. He saw the name "Kevin" written on the transparent screen of his smartphone. He frowned a little in confusion, this was the first time Kevin contacted him.

Opted to ignore that fact, Kris quickly got up from his seat and walked away from the crowd. He then answered Kevin's call when he was in a quiet place. He certainly didn't want Kevin to suspect suspicious noises around him.

"Hello?" Kris greeted after their phone call was connected.

"Hi, Kris. This is Kevin. Am I bothering you?" Kevin asked on the other end of the phone.

Kris rolled his eyes in disdain at Kevin's pleasantries. "If I was bothered, I would have rejected your phone call. What's up?" He asked lazily.

For a moment he heard Kevin's crisp laugh on the other end of the line. "Yesterday, I just came back from overseas after my conference was over. I went straight to see Blue, but strangely she refused to see me. I originally wanted to inform her about your intention to adopt her."

Kris was a little uneasy hearing Kevin's question related to Blue. There was no way he could tell the truth to a man who already considered Blue as his younger sister. Kevin would have been shocked to death if he knew the truth that Blue had just killed five thugs with great power that she couldn't control.

"Blue refused to see you, but all you did was contact me. Don't you think that's weird?" Kris finally responded to Kevin's story after a few seconds the werewolf lost in his thoughts.

"Oh, after you asked, now I realize that it was indeed weird to call you," Kevin replied casually. "But, I still want to ask for your advice. What do you think I should do to get Blue to see me, so I can talk to her about the adoption?"

Kris was actually annoyed by Kevin's pleasantries, but for almost two months, the latter had been nice to him. The young scientist even allowed him to stay at his house without paying. Shocking, indeed. He never thought that Kevin would be willing to let him stay at his house for free. He assumed Kevin may be lonely at home and needed a friend. Or perhaps that man was just simply strange. That's all.

"Perhaps Blue is in a bad mood, maybe some love problems or something. It's natural for girls her age to start feeling dilemmas because of love. Give her time to be alone. I'm sure she will be willing to meet you when she is ready."

Kris shuddered a little at the words that just came rushing out of his mouth. He rarely advising others. Such meaningful words were not common for him. He was actually not sure about what he just said.

"I think you have a point," Kevin replied from the end of the phone, making Kris breathe a sigh of relief. It turned out that his words were quite reasonable and acceptable to the human. "By the way, where are you now? I didn't see you for more than a month. The last time I saw you was before I went to the conference, but you were not home when I came back yesterday. Since when did you leave my house? Why didn't you tell me beforehand? I thought you were kidnapped," Kevin continued with a different subject.

Again, Kris felt like he was talking to a child. "I'm on business out of town since a few days ago. I'll be back to your house when my business is finished," he replied.

"Okay, I understand, but there is something that I still can't understand."

Kris desperately wanted to end their phone call. It seemed like their conversation would have no end. In his eyes, Kevin looked like a child who just got a new cellphone and didn't want to stop playing with it. And, one of the ways the black-haired human played with it was by bullying him. He wondered if Kevin didn't have any friends that he finally became the victim of the human's loneliness.

"I don't understand why you want to stay in the city when your business is on the coast? You just told me that you're looking for someone, but I never saw you trying to find that someone. Have you found that person?"

Now Kris felt like he was being interrogated. It was natural for Kevin to be curious, though. He had known Kris for few months, but Kris was a bit introverted and did not easily tell him anything. Kris himself wondered why Kevin seemed to easily trust him and was even willing to let him stay at his house even though the scientist didn't know his background at all. The human seemed too naïve to the point that he was not suspicious of him at all. Now Kris couldn't distinguish between too naïve and too stupid.

After sighing for a moment, Kris finally answered, "Yes, I've found that person, and that person is you."
