The Blue Eyes

Chapter 114 - HEART-TO-HEART TALK

The speedboat bobbing up and down in the ocean. The mainland was raining a lot these days. The city was covered by thick clouds almost every day, preventing the heat radiated from the Earth from escaping the atmosphere. The phenomenon causing the mainland to be enveloped by warmness these days.

The high temperature correlated with low pressure. The low pressure in the mainland causing the wind from all directions to gather there. The wind seemed to chase each other before they gather on the mainland. That's why the city was so windy these days.

The different pressure between the ocean and the land also affected the waves. The waves seemed like raging when the strong wind blew past them on the surface. The crest was high, the through was low, and the wavelength was short. The waves were indeed wild and frightening.

"Kris! Shall we go back to the shore?" Jack asked the man beside him, who tried so hard to stabilize his speedboat.

That's right, Kris and Jack were on their way to the island where Kris's father used to live before. Kris didn't have any other choice and was forced to bring Jack along with him. Kevin agreed to stay in the city, but the scientist asked him to bring Jack as a company. That was the reason why he agreed to travel with Jack.

"It's okay. In the past, I even went through a cyclone. Just a strong wind like this is not a big deal for me," the slightly taller man replied in a calm tone. His calmness contrasted with the horror expression that plastered on Jack's face.

Jack just shook his head in disbelief. "You're crazy, Kris," he responded. "You should've listened to your boyfriend to delay our trip today."

Yes, Kevin was asking Kris to delay their trip due to the bad weather, but Kris didn't want to change his mind. He was resolute to go to the island today and didn't care about the bad weather on the mainland.

"We're lucky that it's not raining in the ocean today. It's just a strong wind, not even a storm, so stop overreacting!"

Jack once again shook his head when he heard Kris's rebuke. His intentions were good, but the taller man scolded him in return.

They were silent for a while. Kris focused on driving his speedboat while Jack looked ahead absentmindedly. Kris was right, after all. They were lucky since the ocean was relatively sunny without any dark clouds.

"Kris." After a few minutes engulfed by silence, Jack finally called out the other man. "Are you serious with that scientist?"

The caramel-haired man was a bit surprised by Jack's sudden question. "Why do you ask me that out of the blue?" He asked back instead of answering.

Jack peered at the man beside him and answered, "I just feel that it's a little bit strange. You just knew Kevin, but it looks like you're so whipped."

Kris smiled a little. He just realized that it was the first time he had a heart-to-heart talk with Jack. In the past, they were like a cat and a dog who only barked at each other every time they met. They always mocked each other and were even involved in serious battles until both of them were injured.

Kris had never imagined that a day like this would ever come to both of them.

"You're wrong, Jack. It's not only recently I know Kevin. In fact, I've known Kevin for more than twenty years."

The answer made Jack widened his eyes in surprise. "What?" He turned to Kris and stared at him in disbelief. "What do you mean by you've known Kevin for more than twenty years?"

Jack's question made Kris feel nostalgic. He couldn't even hide his smile as he recalled the past.

"We're childhood buddies. I've been liking him since we're kids, but my feelings are getting more serious as we grow up."

"What? You guys are childhood buddies?" Jack asked in surprise, and then a sudden realization hit him as he screamed, "So, Kevin was the chubby kid who snatched you away from me in the past?"

Kris's ears stung because of Jack's scream. Thankfully they were in the middle of an ocean now, and no one could hear the sudden yell.

"Who did you call chubby? He was adorable back then. Kevin was not chubby at all!" Kris scolded the tattoed man.

But Jack didn't retort and still stared at Kris in horror. He remembered the chubby kid who took Kris away from him, a chubby kid who made him lost his playmate many years ago. He couldn't believe that Kevin was the chubby kid.

The black werewolf then shifted his gaze away from Kris and gazed blankly at the blue ocean ahead of them. "That chubby kid had stolen you from me many years ago. Why didn't I recognize him before?" He weakly asked himself.

Kris could hear the small voice, though. He peered at the other man as he lifted his eyebrow. "Why do you keep accusing Kevin of snatching and stealing me? I was never yours, for God's sake!" He once again scolded the blonde guy.

Jack scrutinized Kris before he sighed. "He was the one who took my playmate away from me. You played with him every day, and you completely forgot about me. It's all his fault," he said in a cold tone.

Hearing the accusation, Kris punches Jack's shoulder quite hard that Jack almost fell to the water. "Watch what you're saying, Jack! I always played with Kevin and didn't want to play with you again because you often cheated when we were playing games. It's not Kevin's fault, but it's your fault!"

Jack rubbed his shoulder that just received a punch from Kris. He then reminisced about their past when they were playing games together.

They played many games back then, but their favorite was the card games. Jack didn't remember clearly, but there was a popular card game back then. Many kids asked their parents to buy them a pack of cards to play with their friends. Jack and Kris were some of the kids. They often played the cards together, and yeah, Jack often cheated when they played.

"Alright, I admit that I often cheated back then," Jack shyly admitted his cheat in the past. "But you should've just told me to stop cheating. I would definitely stop cheating if you told me to stop instead of leaving me alone."

Kris sighed. He knew that it was useless for him to get angry over their childhood dispute. "You should stop hating Kevin. It's not his fault, after all. I can't believe that you hate him to the extent that you tried to eat him alive some time ago."

Jack was still reflecting on his mistake, but then he turned to Kris again while furrowing his eyebrows. "What do you mean, Kris? I didn't recognize Kevin back then. I just attacked him based on my instinct. Indeed, I didn't like Kevin before, but it's not because I recognized him as the chubby kid that stole you from me in the past."

"Stop saying that Kevin stole me from you in the past! That sentence got me goosebumps!"

Jack snorted after he got scolded by Kris for the nth time today.

After the scolding, the atmosphere was once again wrapped by silence. Gradually, the sight of the island greeted their eyes. It seemed that they would reach the island in no time.

"Hey, Jack. I just realized about something," Kris suddenly broke the silence again. "After our heart-to-heart talk just now, I finally find out the reason why you hated me so much. You used to hate me so much because of Kevin, right?"

Jack's eyes widened once again after hearing Kris's question. The cat got his tongue, so he couldn't form a word to answer the question.

Sensing that Jack was embarrassed by his question, Kris couldn't help but chuckle. "I didn't expect that you couldn't let go of the memory, Jack. I thought you hated me for another reason, but it turns out that you couldn't move on from our childhood past."

Jack's face flushed when he sensed the mocking tone in Kris's speech. He lost his dignity completely today.

"You can't blame me," the tattooed man then defended himself. "The memory is so vivid, and I'm traumatized because of you and Kevin in the past. After you left me, I became a lonely kid who always played alone. Moreover, I grew up as a coldhearted man because I could no longer believe in friendship. Just so you know, you have left a deep scar in my heart, Kris."

Kris was stunned after Jack finished speaking. The tattooed man suddenly voiced his thought in a bitter and weak tone. That tone made Kris's body turn stiff all of a sudden.

He briefly glanced at Jack and found that the blonde-haired man was now ducking his head low. That increased his suspicion, so he decided to ask, "Do you have romantic feelings for me, Jack?"
