The Blue Eyes

Chapter 124 - A GREEN CARPET

It was like a giant green carpet. The giant carpet was blanketing the cold brown Earth. Underneath the green tapestry, some worms were wriggling to avoid the blazing sunlight. And above it, some birds made a bet to kiss the green leaves before they flew away again with a joyful chirp.

The breeze made the green paddy dance along with the natural melody. They moved dynamically as if there was a conductor that led the symphony. Such natural beauty and it was totally pleasing in the eye.

The black jeep stopped on the side of the green paddy fields. A girl opened the car door and stepped on the cold grown. She stood straight on the side of the green fields. She then closed her eyes and stretched out her hands, letting the cold air graze her beautiful face.

"Are you filming a music video, Blue?" A man's hoarse voice suddenly ruined her peaceful moment.

The girl turned to her back and glared at the man. "Way to ruin my heavenly moment, Jack," she scolded the extruder.

Jack just chuckled and walked over to the young girl. He then stood next to the girl. "Do you think it's a holiday? It's a secret mission, Blue. You should take it seriously."

The girl snorted but didn't rebuke. Jack was just being annoying as usual, and it was useless to argue.

Both of them then enjoyed the pleasant scenery before their eyes. It was such a rare panorama for them. They lived in the city, so a rural setting like this was a thing that they wouldn't see every day.

"What should we do now? I didn't prepare any plan for our investigation here. This place doesn't even look suspicious," Jack stated after a moment of silence.

Blue didn't immediately answer. Jack had been driving the black jeep for almost an hour around Chilad District, but they didn't find anything suspicious.

Chilad was a district in the southern area of Serein City. The district was relatively low-key, and it was one of the unnoticeable districts in Serein City.

The built area in the district was relatively small compared to the paddy fields area. The population was also small, and the population pyramid was dominated by old people. The youngsters in the district seemed to prefer to live in a more developed region than Chilad. That's why they chose to leave the district after they grew up.

"We only investigated for an hour. The day is still long, and maybe we can find something later," Blue finally responded.

They were quite tired after the long journey. It took around two hours from Nozheic to get there, and they had traveled around the district for about an hour. They didn't even allocate time to eat and just bought some loaves of bread at the convenience store. That was not a problem for Jack, but Blue's stomach was quite troubled now.

"You really don't want to eat first?" Jack asked in concern. His eyes peeked at Blue and noticed that she looked a bit pale.

"I'm fine," the girl replied. "After the power inside my body is fully active, I'm no longer a weak girl. My physical resistance is not as strong as yours, but I'm not that weak now. You better stop looking down on me"

Jack just shrugged and didn't prolong the matter. "Have you contacted your uncle? How is he doing in Rodein now?" He decided to change the subject.

"I've texted him and Brother Kevin, but they didn't reply," the blue-eyed girl answered. "Why did you suddenly ask about my uncle?"

There was an almost invisible flinch in Jack's body when he heard Blue's question. "It's nothing. I was just curious," he replied as his hand awkwardly rubbed the nape of his neck.

Blue peered at the taller man suspiciously. Her blue eyes narrowed at the man as if she was scanning the man to find out what was inside the tattooed man's mind.

Sometimes Jack was like an open book that was easy to read, but sometimes the writings in the book were too blurry that it was difficult to interpret.

"What's your problem with my uncle?" The black-haired girl finally asked after she finished scanning the man. It seemed like the writings in the book were quite easy to apprehend today.

Again, Jack winced a little when he heard the girl's question. "Why did you ask me like that? We don't have any problem," he answered as he drew his gaze away from Blue. It seemed like he was avoiding Blue's interrogating gaze.

"Liar," Blue responded in a cold tone. "You used to call my uncle a liar, but you're a worse liar than him, Jack"

The cold tone made Jack turn his head again at the girl beside him. He was quite taken aback when he saw Blue's icy expression. Did he just offend the young girl?

The blonde-haired man then sighed before turning his head to the front again. "I also don't understand what is the problem between us." He decided to share his thoughts with the girl. "At one point, I think we had a pleasant journey to the island, but at another point, I think the journey was a disaster."

It seemed like Jack was not good at story-telling, and his story got Blue confused. She became more curious now.

The girl furrowed her eyebrows and asked, "What do you mean?"

Jack didn't immediately answer and took some time to recall the memory of when he and Kris were on the remote island.

"We didn't fight," he then spoke again after a few seconds. "We were just teasing each other, but in the end, we both were offended by the teases. I was offended, and he was also offended. That's all."

Blue looked up at Jack in disbelief. "Are you two a toddler? How could you two end up in a bad term just because of that little matter? I could sense my uncle's feelings, and he was totally not feeling good because of you, Jack."

A faint smile emerged on Jack's face when he heard Blue's statement. "I didn't mean to make him upset, but he had hurt my feelings too. I can't help but seek my revenge."

Blue didn't quite understand, but she could see the bigger picture now. The girl shook her head after hearing the response. Her uncle and Jack were the same, they could be so childish sometimes.

"You should apologize to him when we get back to the city. It's annoying to see two grown men sulking."

The man could only giggle when he heard Blue's sarcastic words. The girl was always so blunt, and it didn't surprise him anymore.

The atmosphere fell into silence again. The soft breeze teased their faces, making them unwilling to leave the site to continue the mission.

"This place is just too great. I'll build a house in this place after I resigned."

Blue turned to the man after hearing the ridiculous statement coming from the man. "After you resigned? Do you have any jobs now? As far as I remember, you're just a jobless old man."

Jack didn't seem to be offended by the girl's rude words. Instead, he chuckled heartily at the girl. "Since the beginning until now, you didn't change a bit, Blue. You're still the rude girl who doesn't afraid of anything."

Blue was stunned by Jack's sentences. It was weird, but it felt like she just heard Jack uniquely praising her. A rosy color suddenly crept up on her cheeks as she felt her cheeks getting warmer. She could only shift her gaze as she faked a cough. Jack noticed the reaction, but he just smiled mysteriously.

"Let's continue our mission. Standing under the sun at this hour may cause our skin burns. I forgot to apply my sunblock this morning."

The rosy color on Blue's cheeks completely vanished after she heard Jack's absurd words. A man like Jack also cared about appearance? Blue was dumbfounded.

She coldly turned around and started walking toward the jeep. "I bring my sunblock with me. You can pay me if you want to use it," she said as she hopped on the black vehicle.

Jack's eyes widened at the words. "You're so stingy just like your uncle!" He exclaimed as he walked over to the car as well.

"How come you call my uncle stingy?" Blue asked when the man was already sat behind the steering wheel.

Jack was fastening his seatbelt when he answered, "I keep hearing Kevin complaining about Kris who is too stingy to buy him a new car."

It was Blue's turn to chuckle after hearing Jack's answer. "Their relationship is just too cute, right?"

But, to her surprise, Jack didn't join the laugh. Instead, he was staring blankly at the steering wheel.

"Aren't you jealous seeing their relationship, Blue?" He then asked in a whisper.

That was just a whisper, but Blue managed to hear the whisper clearly. That's why she was stunned and kept staring at Jack with an unreadable gaze.
