The Blue Eyes

Chapter 39 - KRIS'S LIES

The doctor widened his eyes after he heard Kris's request, which was made no sense for him.

"Are you kidding, Sir? The patient had just had a serious accident and was just past his critical condition. I cannot guarantee the patient's condition will improve even though he is now in a relatively stable condition. The hospital cannot permit something that may endanger patient's safety."

Kris's face was still as hard as stone and seemed unfazed by the doctor's words. His determination seemed made up to take Kevin home.

"I am the person closest to Kevin and know Kevin's condition the best. I will be responsible for Kevin if something bad happens to him. If I have to sign a statement or something, then I'm ready to do it right now."

The doctor shook his head at how stubborn the man in front of him was. "You are not even the patient's parents, so how can I trust you?" He asked while giving Kris a mocking look.

The mock seemed to provoke Kris's anger. "Do I need to be Kevin's parents to be his closest person? Do I need to be Kevin's parents to understand his condition? Do I need to be Kevin's parents to take responsibility for him?" He asked coldly.

The doctor's guts immediately shrank when he saw how Kris's expression changed drastically. "Well, if that's the case, then I have no objections," he said nervously. "But, you have to sign a statement and take care of the administration first. We are not responsible if something bad happens after the patient leaves this hospital."

After getting a green light from the doctor, Kris then thanked him and hurriedly left the doctor's office to take care of the administration as well as sign the statement. The doctor just shook his head to see a hard-headed young man.

Kris's decision was final. He had to bring Kevin home as soon as possible, but the administration and the rest couldn't be done quickly, and he was finally allowed to take Kevin home an hour later.

The IV drip and oxygen hose had been removed from Kevin's body, and now Kevin's weak body was lying on a gurney pushed by several nurses.

They put Kevin's body into the ambulance that was waiting right in front of the emergency room. Kris got into the ambulance and sat next to Kevin, who was still closing his eyes. He  gave Kevin's home address to the ambulance driver, and the driver immediately drove through the busy highway this afternoon.

The werewolf decided to take Kevin to his own house because he knew that Kevin would feel more comfortable in his own house. If he brought Kevin to his biological parents' house, Kevin would continue to miss his parents, and that was not good for the young scientist's recovery.

The ambulance speeding for more than ten minutes before it stopped in front of Kevin's residence. With the help of the ambulance driver and a male nurse, Kris moved Kevin's weak body from the ambulance to the man's room.

After Kevin's body was perfectly lying on his soft bed, Kris thanked the two men who had helped him, and the two men bid goodbye to leave Kevin's residence.

Kris then dropped his burly body onto the bed where Kevin laid. He placed himself right next to the unconscious man. He repeatedly took a deep breath and then exhaled, trying to calm himself after experiencing a tremendous amount of panic for the past few hours.

The werewolf then turned to Kevin, who was still closing his eyes tightly. He silently observed the human's face which was still a little pale, but his breathing was regular, and he didn't look sick.

Kevin was wearing hospital pajamas because his clothes were soaked with blood. Kris often saw Kevin wearing pajamas during their stay together in the house, but the cheap hospital pajamas gave off different vibes and that made him smiled a little.

After a few minutes, the 27-year-old werewolf finally got up from his lying position. He sat beside Kevin's body and pulled the blanket to cover the scientist's body up to the chest.

Once the thick blanket covered Kevin's body, Kris raised his right hand to carefully caress Kevin's head which was currently covered with white bandages. "You almost got me a heart attack," he whispered close to Kevin's face.

He noticed how peaceful Kevin's face was now, and it was a total opposite to his own face which had been filled with anxiety since earlier.

The werewolf took a long time to pay attention to the human's face before he got up from the bed. He was about to walk out of the room, but he once again turned to the human for a moment. He then sighed and continued to leave Kevin's room.

Kris's footsteps still felt feeble, and his sanity had not fully returned. He even paused with a blank stare in front of Kevin's room, like a disoriented person who didn't know what to do.

He lost for several minutes until finally, he decided to approach the aquarium which was a home for Kevin's favorite fishes. They were just ordinary goldfish, but Kevin seemed to love them so much. Kris never asked the scientist why did he choose goldfish over other fishes. He just always paid attention to how Kevin was always painstakingly feeding them with a happy smile. He believed that the fishes meant a lot to the scientist.

That was what prompted Kris to feed the fish. They seemed hungry as they immediately clustered and followed Kris's hand movements when he waved his hand in front of the transparent glass. It made Kris smile a little. He understood why Kevin was always smiling while feeding his pet. Even after the scientist got into an argument with Blue, he immediately fed the fish and his expression became gentler right away. It looked like the fishes acted like a sedative.

"Are they hungry?"

"Yes, they are very hungry."

Kris answered reflexively after he heard someone asked him a question. But, the next second, he felt something was wrong. He quickly turned around, and the fish food he was holding fell scattered to the floor.

"Kevin? You awake?"

Yes, what just surprised the werewolf was Kevin. Kris seemed to be engrossed with the fish and didn't sense the scientist's presence.

Kevin, who was still wearing hospital pajamas, now standing not far from Kris.

Ignoring the fish food that had fallen on the floor, Kris quickly walked over to Kevin and examined his condition. "Are you feeling better?" He asked.

Kevin smiled and then nodded. "Yes," he answered. "What happened to me? I just remember that I tried to avoid a car in the intersection, but I don't know what happened next."

Kris did not immediately answer Kevin's question. Instead, he grabbed Kevin's wrist and led the man to sit on the living room sofa. The two handsome men then sat side by side on the long sofa.

"Your car hit an electric pole after that, but luckily you weren't badly injured," Kris replied. He decided not to tell Kevin the truth, concealing the fact that the man was in a critical condition not too long ago.

"Then, why am I here now and not in the hospital? I'm still wearing hospital pajamas. Did you just kidnap me from the hospital?" Asked Kevin again as his finger pointed at the soft green pajamas on his body.

The question made Kris panic a little. Of course, Kevin would feel strange to find himself at his house while his body was still wrapped in hospital pajamas.

"The hospital immediately let you go home because your condition is fine. But, your clothes were stained with blood, so I brought you home in the hospital clothes," Kris explained.

Kevin still seemed to be contemplating the truth in Kris's words, but it didn't take long before he nodded his head. "Then, what about my car? Is my car badly damaged?" Asked the young man again.

'Ah, your car was not only badly damaged, but it was also crushed.' Kris wanted to reveal the fact, but he didn't have the heart. He knew how Kevin loved his black car.

"You don't need to worry about that. Your car has been brought to the repair shop, and you can use it again once it's repaired," Kris chose to lie. For now, he didn't want to make Kevin think too much because it might have an impact on his health.

Kevin finally nodded. He didn't seem to smell something fishy when Kris gave him an explanation. He did not know that Kris had lied to him a lot today.

However, it seemed that Kris's efforts to keep Kevin's condition stable and not burdened by strange thoughts ultimately failed when Kevin suddenly asked, "Then, what about Blue? Have you found her?"

Kris had expected that Kevin would ask the question, but he didn't think the question would come this fast.

'Can't Kevin take this time to rest even if it's only for a moment?'  He wondered helplessly.

But, Kevin's innocent gaze made Kris unable to hide important things about Blue from him. In the end, he revealed the truth, "A werewolf probably kidnapped Blue."
