The Blue Eyes

Chapter 4 - KEVIN BEISCHEL

Kevin Beischel was a renowned scientist in Serein City. He was still relatively young, 27 years old this year, but his intelligence had been acknowledged since he was a child. That was not surprising since he was born to a pair of parents who were also scientists; they were professors. Whether it was decades ago or today, the Beischels were always known as geniuses.

Unfortunately, that pair of geniuses passed away in a war seventeen years ago. The werewolves' army attacked the laboratory where the two of them were doing research, and the human army had no other choice but to blow up the place to exterminate the ferocious monsters.

Little Kevin, who was only 10 back then, was very shocked to hear the news of his parent's death. The news even got him lost consciousness for several hours. That was indeed a traumatized experience for the little boy.

The death of Kevin's parents was a big loss for human safety. The pair of scientists had been researching werewolves since their first appearance in the 1980s, and many of their research results became the key to humans in defeating werewolves.

In addition, the two of them were also working hard to find an antidote to return werewolves to normal humans. The two of them were sure that there would be an antidote for the monsters' mysterious mutation.

Unfortunately, both of them had to die before the antidote was found. The laboratory where they struggled to find the antidote was destroyed to the point that all their efforts were wasted. Researchers had to start all over again to study werewolves.

That was the background of Kevin's strong determination to become a scientist like his parents and continued what his parents had fought for. It was not difficult for him since the genius seeds that were planted in him grew so well that he became a werewolf research specialist at a young age.

There were still documents left from the results of his parents' research, and those were the materials to continue what his deceased parents had struggled with.

"It has been almost seventeen years, but there's no sign of them. Do you think they are extinct for real?" One of his fellow scientists, Andre Concord, asked.

The two young scientists were currently in a werewolf research laboratory. That laboratory was a re-built version of the old laboratory where Kevin's parents worked seventeen years ago. That was the place where his parents lost their lives.

"I'm not sure about that," Kevin replied while his eyes were still focusing on the document left by his parents. "Based on the data from the Intelligence Agency, there are about 50 werewolves who managed to escape after the war. It is possible that they are still alive, maybe even successful to breed. There are no signs about them does not mean they are gone," he continued.

The laboratory was very sophisticated, everything was computerized and digitalized. It was no longer using papers to write all research results because all data had been stored on the computers and cloud storage as a backup. Receiving full support from the Government under Orka Research Center, the existing facilities were very capable.

There were some werewolf bodies preserved as research specimens. The research was carried out on their DNA, blood, and organs. Even though their form could change like humans, but their insides were completely different from humans. That was what Kevin and his colleagues researched in the laboratory. They were looking for a way to return the werewolves to normal humans again.

"What you said has a point too. Our military is now no longer on guard against the werewolves. They are no longer on guard because so far there has been no movement. Do we have to make our team find werewolves out there?" Andre asked again.

Kevin closed the document in his hand and laughed softly. He took off his reading glasses perched on top of his tall nose and replied, "We're scientists, not werewolf hunters. It is better if we wait and remain vigilant."

Andre sighed tiredly after hearing Kevin's response. He then sat down beside his colleague and rested his chin on his palm. "It's okay if they're still alive," he weakly said. "As long as they don't attack humans, then it's okay. We can make some pacts or something with them to prevent another war, right?"

Kevin chuckled a little hearing his friend's innocent idea. "They are the predators and we are their prey. Do you think they are willing to make a pact with us? Have you ever imagine how humans make a pact with wolves?" He asked in a humorous tone.

"They're not wolves! They're half-humans, and based on your late parents' research, they have consciousness just like us. Of course, it's possible to make a pact!" Andre stubbornly argued.

Kevin smiled while shaking his head in amusement. "You can try to offer the pact to them when you meet them. We'll see whether your idea works or not."

Andre scoffed at the response but didn't say anything. His chin was still resting on his palm and he silently peeping at his colleague who was now wearing a white laboratory coat. He could not understand why Kevin would want to be a scientist when he could become an actor instead. Yes, he knew Kevin wanted to continue his parents' unfinished works, but that's such a waste of his looks.

Just look at Kevin's appearance. His face was super handsome with a pair of almond eyes, a celestial nose, and a pair of thin lips. He had ear-length black hair that was as black as charcoal, his skin was fair and smooth, and his body was tall with a pair of long legs. He had a soft, velvety voice, which was making the listeners felt calm and peaceful. According to Andre, his colleague was no less charming than Korean or Chinese celebrities.

"Anyway, I remember a few days ago you said that you wanted to bring Blue here. When are you going to bring her?" Andre asked again, stopping himself from secretly fanboying over his attractive lab mate.

Kevin did not immediately answer. He was very quiet while playing with the titanium-rimmed glasses with his long fingers. Andre did know Blue because Kevin once invited Andre to visit the orphanage where Blue lived, and those three also hung out together several times when they were free.

Kevin also once told Andre that Blue showed an interest in becoming a scientist like him, especially researching werewolves like what he had been doing.

"I don't know," Kevin finally answered. "Blue is very interested in werewolf studies, but her mental state is currently unstable. In a few months, she has to leave the orphanage if no one wants to adopt her. She even has a plan to quit her studies and go straight to work," he continued.

Andre looked a little surprised at Kevin's explanation. "What? But, Blue has the potential to become a scientist. She is smart and tenacious, and it will be a shame if she just quit her studies," he said.

Kevin listened attentively while his brain was deep in thought. Thinking about Blue always heated his brain. If his research job was his number one priority, then Blue was his second. He always wished Blue all the best. He couldn't imagine what Blue's life would be like if she had to live independently after leaving the orphanage. He didn't want Blue to be homeless and suffer out there.

"Hey, Kevin," Andre broke the silence again. "Why don't you just adopt Blue?"

Kevin looked at his lab partner with a mocking look. "That's what I'm considering too, but I'm still not sure. You think a super busy single guy like me can take care of kids?" He asked back.

Andre's loud laughter echoed in the laboratory. "Blue is no longer a child," he said. "But, if that's the case, then you better get married soon so that your wife can take care of your little Blue at home," he continued.

And Andre got a reward in the form of a light fist on his left arm thanks to those words.

"You think getting married is easy? I haven't found the right person. I don't even know what kind of person is right for me."

Getting hit on his arm, Andre was not irritated and instead looked at his lab partner gloomily. Since Kevin grew up, Kevin had only always focused on research and only research. He had the ambition to be able to solve what his parents had not been able to accomplish.

Kevin had never even thought about dating or enjoying his life out there on a whim. Even though he had a very handsome face, Andre knew very well that Kevin had never dated in his entire life. When most men his age had already lost their virginity, Andre believed that until now Kevin was still as pure as a baby.

That made Andre felt concerned. He, who was two years older than Kevin, was now married and was very happy about that. He hoped his comrade would feel the same way soon.

"You will find someone, Kevin. You will find the right one."
