The Blue Eyes

Chapter 50 - RED AURA

"We didn't find Blue," Kevin said weakly.

Bonfires lit gallantly cut through the darkness of the night. The pile of firewood started burning, creating a huge fire after Kris lit it with a match.

The red glow contrasted sharply with the deep black of the night. The light was so beautiful, it gave color to the night that was once dull.

Kris and Kevin sat together there. They sat not too close to each other. There was a distance of around two meters separating the two of them.

"Are you hungry? I brought some bread and milk for you," Kris asked as his hands rummaged his black backpack, choosing to ignore Kevin's depressed words.

"I'm not hungry," Kevin replied shortly.

Kris sighed, but he still threw a loaf of bread at Kevin and said, "Eat, then I will tell you about the project related to Blue."

Kris's words made Kevin's face shine. He quickly grabbed the bread, unwrapped the plastic, then devoured it like a hungry kitten.

Kris shook his head at the scene. Talking to Kevin was like talking to a child. He even needed to offer a reward just to get him to eat.

Minutes passed without anyone speaking. Only Kevin's chewing sound filled up the void of the night. The sound of waves hitting the beach acted as a back sound. The sea did not rest even though it was late at night. For twenty-four hours, it continued to move tirelessly to form currents and waves.

It didn't take long for the scientist to finish his bread, and he immediately looked up at Kris with a curious gaze. Again, Kris could only sigh at Kevin's behavior.

"You are right. Blue is related to the project. You still remember that Blue is the child of the prophecy, right? On December 10, 2021, the werewolves were supposed to get Blue, but it turned out that the humans had defeated the werewolves, and Blue disappeared. The project ended up falling apart."

Kevin digested Kris's explanation before finally asking, "So, they predicted that Blue would be born on that date?" Kris nodded briefly in response, and Kevin asked again, "What power does Blue have that they want Blue so badly?"

"I don't know exactly what power Blue has," Kris answered honestly. "I saw the glimpse of her power twice, but I can't guess what kind of power she has. But, according to my father's story, her power is immense, beyond the power of a werewolf in general. Therefore, Blue is highly targeted by them."

"And, you are also eyeing Blue," Kevin quickly accused the werewolf.

"Yes, but with a different purpose," Kris refuted the accusation.

"What is your true purpose? Blue disliked you from the start because she believed you had a bad motive to her."

This time, Kris did not immediately give a rebuttal. He just sighed, then used his hand that was holding a piece of firewood to play the fire in front of them.

"I just wanted to protect Blue," the werewolf finally spoke again. "If the werewolves managed to get her, I couldn't guarantee her safety. Apart from that, I naturally also want to protect mankind. Humans could be in danger if Blue joined them."

"You seem to know a lot about the matter," Kevin stated. "Does your father know that you know this much?"

"My father knows that I know about the prophecy and also about their plans related to Blue. I'm also sure that he has predicted my betrayal. But, there are a lot of things that I know, but my father doesn't know that I know. I even know a lot of things he doesn't know," Kris replied with a crooked smile while his hand still playing the fire with a wooden stick.

Kevin didn't get what Kris meant. There were so many words playing in the explanation, and that made Kevin perplexed.

"Do you still have many secrets? You don't even want to tell me about that?"

This time, Kris's hand movements stopped as he looked up at Kevin, who was also staring at him intently. "I will tell you everything, all without missing a beat, but not now," said the werewolf.

Kevin smiled wryly at Kris's words that he had heard so many times before. "Do you want me to believe in you, Kris?" He asked in a low voice.

The question stunned Kris. The caramel-haired man then softly replied, "I don't care even if the world didn't believe in me. I just want you to believe me."

Kevin froze after hearing Kris's answer. His wistful eyes continued to stare at Kris's eyes. A thin layer of clear liquid veiled the twin obsidians.

Realizing that, the scientist immediately looked away from Kris and said, "Even though I'm sitting in front of the fire, why is it still cold?" He rubbed his palms together as if he was looking for warmth. The scientist seemed to have chosen to change the subject.

Hearing Kevin's words, which were reinforced by his actions, Kris finally moved to get closer to Kevin.

The young werewolf quickly took off his leather jacket and put it on Kevin's shoulders. "You should be wearing thicker clothes," he scolded the other man a little.

But, Kevin didn't reply and was still busy rubbing his two frozen palms. It turned out that he was not lying. He was feeling cold for real.

Kris finally reached out his hand to grab Kevin's hand. He tried to transfer the warmth in his body to the human, but that very second, his eyes widened after his skin came into contact with Kevin's.

"Your hands... Why are they frozen?" He asked frantically.

Kris panicked seeing the condition of the young scientist. He quickly brought his big body to embrace Kevin's shivering body. Inevitably, he had to use his power if he didn't want Kevin to die freezing.

Slowly, Kris's brownish eyes turned red, and a red aura that looked hot coming out from within his body. The aura slowly enveloped Kevin's body and started giving warmth to the human.

Kris's big hands kept rubbing Kevin's body so that the scientist felt warmer because of the friction he was exerting.

Kevin was silent in Kris's arms. A warm sensation slowly sinking into his body. He could also see how Kris's eyes turned red, and he could also see how a red aura came out of the werewolf's body.

Unconsciously, the scientist stretched out his cold right hand to touch Kris's left cheek. "You are very warm, Kris," he said in a low voice resembling a whisper.

Kris could feel the cold sensation still rising from Kevin's palm against his cheek. That was a sign that Kevin must be still feeling cold at this time. He then decided to tighten his embrace and drew out his power even more so that he could give Kevin more warmth.

He was worried. He was afraid that something bad might happen to Kevin. In his heart, he felt guilty because he had brought the scientist to the island. They couldn't even find Blue even though they had come all the way there.

The minutes passed in silence, and only the sound of the waves engulfed them. Kevin was still limp in Kris's arms. His body temperature was not as cold as before, and Kris could feel that Kevin's body was starting to warm up again. He immediately lowered the intensity of his power so that he wouldn't burn Kevin.

It seemed that Kevin was feeling better, so he released himself from Kris's hug and looked at Kris who was also staring at him. "Your eyes are red, Kris," said the young man.

Kris finally realized that he had not fully returned his power to his body. He quickly changed the color of his eyes so as not to make Kevin feel uncomfortable.

"Are you feeling warm?" Asked the werewolf.

Kevin smiled a little, then replied, "Yes, it's thanks to you." While he adjusted the position of Kris's leather jacket on his shoulder. "Does your power have the element of fire?" He asked later.

The werewolf nodded and answered, "The color of our eyes is red, and our aura is also red. It's part of the fire element."

"Then, why is the child in your prophecy has blue eyes? Red and blue are two different colors. Does that mean Blue has a different element in her power?" Asked Kevin innocently.

Kevin's question was innocent, making Kris chuckle as his hand moved to pinch the human's pale cheek. "Yes, red and blue are two different colors, but they are the color of flames. I'm sure you know that blue flames are hotter than red flames. But, I truly still don't know about Blue's real power, so I don't dare to make a guess."

Kevin innocently nodded his head after hearing Kris's explanation. The information provided by Kris was new for him. Previously, he had never known that werewolves had the element of fire.

He never found any information about that in the results of his parents' research. Or maybe the results of the research that contained about it had been destroyed by the explosion that occurred seventeen years ago.

Remembering about his father and his mother made Kevin remember something that suddenly made him feel curious.

He immediately looked back at Kris and asked, "Kris, do you know my father and my mother?"
