The Blue Eyes

Chapter 81 - THE WEREWOLVES' BITE

Kevin and Kris then walked over to the lady who was sitting in a wheelchair. The lady was none other than Professor Selena Beischel, the owner of the laboratory.

Choosing to ignore the professor who greeted him with a smile, Kevin immediately approached the object inside the giant glass tube that had caught his attention. Of course, Kevin had always been very interested in the werewolf figure lying on the observation table shielded by a giant glass tube.

"So, this is the werewolf monster that appeared yesterday?" Kevin enthusiastically asked the lady. "Is he dead?"

Selena turned her wheelchair towards the giant glass tube with the werewolf monster inside it. "That's right. It's the newest species of werewolf monster that had appeared recently," she explained. "He's not dead. The special gases in this tube made him lose consciousness, but he's still alive."

Selena's explanation made Kevin turn to the lady. "A new species of werewolf monster? How do you know that it's a new species? Have you examined his body?" He asked curiously.

"Ever since the creature's body entered the glass tube and the glass tube tightly closed, a thorough examination is automatically carried out by the tools inside. The results immediately came out on the monitor screens pinned to the wall," Selena gave an explanation, which ended with her wrinkled finger pointing to a wall where there were many active monitors attached. The monitors contained a lot of data.

Kevin was a little surprised to hear Selena's explanation. The professor had apparently succeeded in creating sophisticated tools at her very old age. In the laboratory where he worked, the tools used to examine a live specimen such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Multislice Computerized Tomography (MSCT) were available separately and could be used as needed.

But, the interior of the giant glass tube in this laboratory was full of various devices with electromagnetic wave sensors such as X-rays, radio waves, magnetic waves, gamma waves, and others that were ready to use without having to move the specimen's body to another device. All of them were connected to real-time monitors.

"The results of the analysis with wireless brain sensors show that the nerve system of the brain has undergone modifications that cause these creatures to lose consciousness and lose memory. After I checked the other scans, I found a viral infection in their DNA, much like the case that happened decades ago when humans turned into werewolves, but it's not that simple this time."

The very senior professor started her explanation, and the two young people listened to her attentively.

"After I did a thorough scan, I found something on the creature's neck. You can take a look at monitor number two and tell me what you see."

In unison, the two young men turned their heads towards monitor number two that was pointed to by the professor. The smart monitor showed a scanned image of the monster's neck, and they could see two small holes in the neck. It looked like a bite mark.

"Did the human turn into a werewolf because of a bite?" This time, it was Kris who asked in curiosity.

"That's my hypothesis for now," the professor replied. "Based on the scan results, I found a virus that entered through their blood vessels and infected their DNA. I analyzed the virus, and it turned out that it was almost the same as the formula Joseph injected into a human to turn them into a werewolf decades ago. The difference is, the structure of the formula has now turned into a virus that can be transmitted by bites and enters through blood vessels."

The professor's statement made Kevin and Kris widen their eyes. Wasn't this even scarier now? Now, werewolves were like vampires or zombies in movies.

"It looks like Joseph managed to make werewolves evolve again, and now they are capable of infecting humans, not just killing them. However, after I carried out further analysis, the werewolf that was created from the virus was weak in power compared to the werewolves created directly through Joseph's formula. They even lost their intelligence. They just bite anyone they meet on the street. It's their instinct."

The explanation caused a question mark to appear on Kevin's face. "If the virus can't create stronger werewolves, then why did he use that virus instead of using a formula to create a larger and stronger army of werewolves like before?"

"That's because Joseph wants to create werewolves in a short time without having to find the 'host' for the formula directly. In addition, he also intends to create terror for humans. Even though that kind of werewolf is not strong and can't even change the form, it will certainly be very dangerous if all the humans in this city transform into werewolves."

Just the thought of it made Kevin cringe. They may not be strong, but if they were numerous and continued to grow with their mobility, humans could be on the verge of extinction.

"You're right, Kevin. There's now a lot of them, about 50 scattered all over the city. The military is secretly trying to arrest them because we don't want people to worry if they find out the real situations."

As if she could read Kevin's mind, Selena explained one thing that shocked Kevin.

So far, there have been 50 new species of werewolf monsters? Why was it growing so fast when its first appearance was just yesterday? Or maybe they actually started appearing a few days ago but no one noticed?

"But, shouldn't we warn humans to be alert? At least, we should ask them to stay at home so that there will be no new victims," Kris voiced his opinion.

"You're right, but this condition may disrupt the stability of the country and may have impacts on many sectors. The military didn't agree to announce that. In the meantime, they will try to deal with this problem first."

Kevin and Kris fell silent with their tense face. Even though the public hadn't known the truth yet, the conditions started to become unfavorable for them. They weren't sure that the military was capable of dealing with this problem without making it public. The development of the new kind of werewolf monster was very fast, and things would not end if they couldn't catch the real mastermind.

"Professor, should I go to get Professor Joseph?" Kris returned to voice his idea.

But, to his dismay, Selena quickly shook her head. "You have to be rational, Kris. Now, Joseph must be guarded by werewolves whose strength exceeds yours. You know how Joseph keeps giving them new formulas to make them stronger, right? You won't be able to fight them."

"But, we can't solve the problem if we just cut the stem and don't get to the root! The werewolves of the previous generation are still spreading the virus for sure, and the human military forces won't easily defeat them. At least, let me eradicate them one by one so that this problem won't get bigger."

Selena could only sigh at how stubborn Kris was. She was about to speak up again to reject Kris's idea, but Kevin got ahead of her.

"What if I just go and get rid of the root of this problem? Am I not currently the strongest werewolf?"

And Selena became even dizzier after hearing Kevin's suggestion. Kris and Kevin were both stubborn and insistent. Both men enjoyed acting impulsively without thinking about the consequences.

"Kevin, now you can see for yourself that Joseph is not an ordinary criminal, right? He has made new formulas without us knowing, and probably he still has some secret formulas up his sleeves. Even though you are the strongest werewolf, your proposal is too dangerous, so I won't let you go."

Kevin and Kris could only show disappointed grimaces when their idea was rejected by the professor. The current situation was not good, so the two of them were trying to find a solution as quickly as possible. But, at times like this, their brains were completely clogged.

"You don't have to worry about this matter," Selena spoke up again. "Kevin, you have to stay indoors and keep practicing to control your power for now. And you, Kris. You have to protect Kevin with your life like what you always promised me."

The professor stared at the two youngsters in front of her in turn. Her gaze was earnest and it was like an indication that she didn't want to be rebutted. Finally, Kevin and Kris nodded their heads as a sign that they agreed.

"It's good that you finally understand. You two better go home now," Selena stated before she turned to Kris. "You have to stay beside Kevin, Kris. Don't ever leave him while he's sleeping like you usually did. If Kevin gets injured, I won't give you my blessing to be Kevin's companion."

This time, Selena's words made Kevin's eyes widen. He reflexively turned to Kris, but the caramel-haired man deliberately avoided his gaze while whistling innocently. Damn, it turned out Kris had already told Selena about their relationship! This inevitably made Kevin feel very embarrassed.

Clearing his throat to cover his embarrassment, Kevin immediately turned around and prepared to leave. But, before he left, he turned slightly to Selena and said, "I'm leaving. Take care." And after that, the young man walked quickly to leave the laboratory.

Selena looked very shocked when she heard Kevin suddenly bid goodbye to her. She thought Kevin would just leave, so she was startled to hear the black-haired man said goodbye even though only in a low voice. Without realizing it, a tear dripped down the wrinkled cheek of the lady.

Kris, who was still standing there, witnessed the heart-warming scene. He smiled and spoke to the lady, "It looks like Kevin is starting to open up his heart for you, Professor."
