The Dawn of the New World

1222 Beasts of Old

It was almost TOO much information to receive all at once but he couldn't really complain, he was the one that asked for it in the first place.

Hao Xuan rubbed his forehead while reiterating all the major points.

"So let me get this straight. Meng- or Maymun, is an ancient Demon and was part of the seven Overlords that rule over the Nine circles of Hell. But a few thousand years ago he deserted his position and returned to the Abyss where he was born."

"There he set his plans in motion and began spreading his influence all over the known planes. And because his plans include overturning Hell, you want to help me so I can stop him. Is that right?"

Light nodded hesitantly, "There is more to it but, yes...if you want to be so coarse."

"Good. Then what about the old witch? What does she want from all of this?"

"I suspect she is hiding a lot but if I had to guess, I would say her position of power is under threat. Ever since Maymun moved his base to the Abyss he has been doing everything he can to expand his influence. And he is doing so by trying to find the locations where the 'Beasts of the Old Age' have been sealed and resurrect them once more."

Hao Xuan could feel his blood pressure rising as more and more ludicrous events and notions were revealed to him by the second.

"OhMyGod what is that now?! What are Beasts of the Old Age?"

Light, who was in the middle of his explanation couldn't help but throw Hao Xuan pityful look.

"Oh my, you mortals really have forgotten everything about the past, haven't you? No wonder you keep repeating the same mistakes."

With a deep breath, he waved his hand and the blanket of darkness covered all of creation.

Hao Xuan looked up and saw the night sky. Even the roof of the gazebo had vanished.

But among the twinkling night stars he could see something moving.

"In the First Age, before mortals existed, there were only a handful of races that ruled over the cosmos. There were the indomitable Titans of the material realms, the unfathomable Old Gods of the Abyss, and the Principality of high heavens to name a few."

"They were sentient beings that had intelligence and some semblance of reason. They could communicate with one another and held some form of rationality and order."

"But there was one such race of beings that existed solely to annihilate everything in their paths. They were called the 'Beasts of Old'. Without any rhyme or reason, they simply desired absolute destruction wherever they went, and they had the power to make it into a reality."

Hao Xuan could see an immense shadow swimming through the void of space. It was so great that entire star systems along its path disappeared within seconds.

"They could neither be destroyed nor killed in any real sense. All we could do was seal them away in different regions of the universe and scatter their powers into the abyss. But little did we know even that would not be enough."

"The demons of the first age like Maymon were birthed from their powers. They were something new but not too different. Like their forebearers, they too wanted to see everything in ruin but at least they could be reasoned with and even controlled to a point, which was never the case with the Beasts of Old."

"The Demons that descended from the Beasts of Old were imperfect. They were powerful but their uncontrollable bloodlust, ego and mistrustful nature led to continued internal conflicts so they could never work together."

"Dissension spread within their ranks and with time more and more divisions began to pop up, each with their own edicts. Currently, there are two schools of thought within the Demon race. The first one wants to awaken the Beasts of Old and finish what had been started in the first age. Maymon belongs to this school."

"The others consider the 'Beasts of Old' as aged relics of a forgotten past that should never be trusted. You can say the old witch and her comrades fall into this category. She is at war with Maymon and his forces but from what I know her strength is waning. If it continues this way she will lose for good and the control of the Abyss will fall into Maymon's hands."

"Then...why don't you help them?" Hao Xuan couldn't help but ask the most obvious question, "Send the armies of Hell to the Abyss and kill Maymon."

"Hahaha, do you think we would be having this conversation if it was that easy?" Light burst out laughing, "We cannot cross into other planes without paying a heavy price."

"Not to mention that keeping order in Hell comes first. What do you think would happen if the wardens of the biggest prison in existence simply up and left their positions? No, this has to be done by someone else. Someone like-"

"Me?"
