Luo Tianyun threw away the papers he’d been holding and rushed to her side. He wiped the saliva off her mouth and patted her back. “What happened? Did you catch the flu? Why are you sneezing? Are you dressed too lightly?”

Luo Shuyan didn’t keep track of the time but she figured she was sneezing for around 2 to 3 minutes before she stopped.

Her eyes were red as she told her dad, “Papa, I…”

She wanted to continue the explanation of her dream, but the sniffles immediately came back, and this time, it lasted even longer than before!

Luo Shuyan was scared to death. She wasn’t sure what was happening. Suddenly, she recalled that at the end of the dream, she was told to “Not Give Any Spoilers”..

Did this mean that she couldn’t tell others about what she’d dreamt about?

She finally stopped sneezing when she realized this fact.

Really? Could she not even let her father know? But how should she prove whether her dream was real if she couldn’t ask her father?

She wanted to try, but the thought of it made her even more scared. She felt like it was a horrible idea to try to let her father know about her dream.

Children had a weaker immune system before the age of three. Luo Shuyan stopped constantly falling sick after she turned three. However, it was a very stressful feat for Luo Tianyun whenever she fell sick. He didn’t dare to ignore the problem and he immediately took his car keys. He held Luo Shuyan’s hand and proceeded to walk towards the door. “You don’t get the flu often. Have you fallen sick? Papa will bring you to the hospital for a checkup.”

Luo Shuyan was still in her own little world, trying to figure out whether her dream was real, so she couldn’t decipher what her father was saying.

Her father carried her onto the car and Luo Shuyan finally came back to her senses when her father parked the car at the entrance of the hospital.

“Papa, what are we doing at the hospital?”

Luo Tianyuan looked concerned and somber. “We’re here to check if you’re sick.”

“Papa, I’m feeling fine,” Luo Shuyan said.

“But, you kept sneezing just now.”

“…”

She didn’t know what to do. “I have a reason for that, but it’s not because I’m sick.”

In Luo Tianyuan’s point of view, he thought that his daughter was being stubborn and that she didn’t want him to worry about her.

When Luo Shuyan was much younger, Luo Tianyuan had bought a lot of parenting books. Through that, he found out that it was inevitable for children to get coughs and colds. In most cases, they didn’t need to get IV drips, and the children would get better as long as their parents took good care of them. Thus, back then, Luo Tianyuan parents’ first reaction was to send his daughter to the hospital for an IV drip, and his father even got angry when he didn’t allow them to do so.

Despite that, Luo Tianyuan wasn’t willing to settle for less for his daughter. Thus, the jabs that his daughter had received were way less than people her age.

Yet, his daughter was still so fearful of hospitals.

“You don’t necessarily need to get a jab even if you’re sick. Don’t worry, Papa will decide when I know your actual condition. You won’t be getting an IV drip if it’s not necessary.”

Luo Shuyan was anxious. “I’m not sick. I’m just… Achoo!”

She couldn’t control her thoughts and once again, she was reminded of her dream. In the end…

‘Of course, true enough’, Luo Tianyuan thought. He was worried that Luo Shuyan was just playing it cool and hugged her. He said with a serious tone, “Enough.”

“…” Luo Shuyan was speechless.

She felt so wronged.

They registered and took a number as they waited. Finally, the nurse called her number and Luo Tianyuan brought her into the doctor’s office. The strong smell of disinfectant filled her nostrils and Luo Shuyan shivered when she saw the doctor in white.

This doctor wasn’t like the doctor from the clinic outside her housing area.

He asked questions about her general wellbeing before using a stethoscope to listen to her heartbeat. “Since her only symptom is the sneezing, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her. She can go home and please take note of her condition for the next few days.”

Luo Shuyan secretly let out a breath of relief.

Luo Tianyuan had other ideas though. He wouldn’t have been so worried if it were only the flu. The main point was that his daughter had experienced a frightening encounter the day before.

“Doctor, can you check again? Do you know about the suicide attempt at a primary school? My daughter happened to witness it and is in shock. She hasn’t been eating well since yesterday. She had been sneezing non stop just now, and usually, she would only sneeze once or twice.”

Luo Tianyuan was visibly anxious.

The doctor didn’t find his anxiousness weird. Since the start of the one-child family planning policy in China, most families only had one child, and the child would be the apple of their parents’ eyes.

It was common for children to have headaches and fevers while growing up, and doctors were used to this. Yet, most parents would be overly anxious. In essence, there’s nothing more touching than the love of a parent.

The doctor was used to this. He looked down and pondered for a moment. He took a pen and wrote, “Then, let’s do a blood test. If there’s nothing wrong, I’ll prescribe some sleeping pills suitable for children.”

“Great, that sounds great.” Luo Tianyuan felt way better.

After the doctor wrote his prescription, Luo Tianyuan paid and brought his daughter to the second floor to draw her blood.

Luo Shuyan was devestated, and it was written on her face. She knew that there was nothing wrong with her body. If she was truly not feeling well, she didn’t mind getting a blood check. However, she knew that there was nothing wrong with her as of now!

She wanted to flee as soon as she thought about the fact that she would have to be poked by a needle.

She was very scared of needles!

Was this the price to pay for attempting to “give spoilers”?

She wanted to cry out loud when she thought about the horrifying dream she had and her current predicament.

She didn’t want to die!!
