Chapter 32 "Cheating"

Hearing the fat chef's request, Shade frowned, he looked towards the man called "Mr. Nit" who collected the money, the latter shook his head:

"This is a matter between you, the club will not stop him from leaving, but you have to convince Fat Jack ."

"I'm running out of money."

Shade pulled out the side pockets of his coat, and there was indeed nothing but keychains and notebooks, because his money was in Inside pocket:
"I didn't expect that he could owe so much money."

Little Franklin had stood up, bowed his head and said a word beside Shade Do not send. Although he is a bit of a jerk, he also knows that now he can only leave with this person who doesn't look older than him.

"No money?"

The fat chef panting with rage bent down and picked up the four scattered Rhodes cards on the ground, and showed Shade the suit, which was the sun. 1. The sun 8, the stars 13 and the emperor.

The emperor and queen are independent cards outside the four suits, some of which are similar to Shade world's big and small kings, but have a very interesting role in the "blackjack" game of Rhodes.

"Draw one out of the four. If you win the emperor, you will take him away. If you don't win, he will keep all your clothes, and you will keep your shirt."

Speaking in a muffled voice, the fat chef started shuffling his hands behind his back. Then, with his bloody toothmarked hand, he held four cards with their backs forward and fanned out:

"Don't call me a bad guy, he bit me."

said angrily, motioning Shade to draw cards quickly.

Shade blinked and reached out to stop little Franklin who was about to reach out:

"If you're lucky, I won't have to redeem you here."

As he speaks, the life ring in his soul is slowly turning, and the spirit drives the elements, and the elements affect the reality. The right eye has more indistinct red traces, and the echo of blood makes the blood traces reflected in Shade's eyes.

The world in his eyes has changed, and everything has a wonderful halo. Even though little Franklin just sprayed a small amount of blood on the cards just now, and all of them were sprayed on the front, the "Echo of Blood" spell still allowed Shade to see the faint traces of red in the air and the fat chef. Different red mist sheen around the four cards in the hand.

He just saw that the "Emperor" was sprayed with the highest blood content, so he knew almost immediately that the card he needed to draw was the second card on the left.

"Am I bullying people? I've just become a warlock, and that's not right."

He thought absentmindedly, examining his own morals and values .

Then extend the hand to the rightmost card. His eyes didn't look at the back of the card, but stared at the fat chef's face. The fat chef immediately tensed his face and tried not to show any expression.

Mr. Nate and little Franklin on the side were attracted by this scene.

"This one isn't."

Shade whispered, putting his finger on the second one from the right, staring at the chef's face for a few more seconds:
"Not this one either."

Shaking his head, this time he switched to the correct card, and after a few seconds, he slowly pulled it out under the uncontrollable surprise of the fat chef:
"This time it is."

The card slowly turned over, it was "Emperor".

"This should be regarded as bullying the ordinary person."

I thought about it.

"Damn, didn't realize you were an experienced gambler."

The fat chef was surprised for a moment, then flustered and exasperated threw the other three cards in his hand on the floor. On the ground:

"Take this damn boy away, next time he owes money and doesn't pay it back, be careful not to let it fall into my hands."

The accountant's pale face Showing a relieved smile, Shade is nodded. He doesn't judge other people's behavior. He only knows that the spell [Echo of Blood] is really helpful to the detective career.

Shade was given a receipt, and in order to prevent Shade and a dejected little Franklin from running around the club, the man sent the two outside the club. But a group of three people just walked to the stairs on the second floor to go downstairs, when they were stopped.

It was a woman in her mid-thirties dressed as a maid. Her appearance was mediocre, but her temperament was very good.

She came up the stairs from the third floor:

"The lady wants to see you."

She looked towards Shade, slightly nodding to him.

“Is there someone behind me?”

Shade thought to look towards behind him immediately, but there was no one behind him:

“Me?”

"Yes, sir, please come with me, your friend can wait for you on the first floor temporarily."

The woman said, Shade didn't know why, looked towards the man who led the way, the latter shrugged:

"Tonight there is only one distinguished guest on the third floor. If it is that lady, you'd better go up there. She is a very distinguished lady. As for him, I will help you watch and promise not to let him Close to the gaming table."

As he spoke, he slapped little Franklin on the shoulder twice, who was almost knocked down, but didn't dare to oppose Shade's departure.

"May I know. Who is that lady?"

Shade asked hesitantly, suspecting someone like the owner of the club or even Mr. Lawrence's "mistress". "Mrs. La Soya found him.

But he didn't understand the reason why the other party was looking for him. The intersection of the former detective and here was only the last time he came to lead someone, apart from this, Shade has no other social relationship that may be associated with this club.

He was also thinking about having a cat at home and wanted to go home as soon as possible to prevent the newly arrived cat from excreting on his bed or desk.

"The lady is a noble with a title and is our most honored guest tonight. For the sake of her reputation, you cannot know the identity of the lady for the time being."

The Maid The dressed woman spoke in standard Delarion lingo, and Shade nodded lightly:

"Then why are you looking for me? Sorry, but I don't seem to know someone of high status."

"Please come with me."

The woman leading the way turned and walked upstairs, Shade hesitated a little, and followed along.

Compared with the relatively quiet second floor, the third floor is absolutely quiet. Judging from the decoration, Shade even believes that this is a certain floor of the museum if it is not from the downstairs.

He followed behind the maid, looking at the oil paintings on both sides of the wall while walking along the carpet in the hallway. Stopping in front of a golden double door, the maid helped push the door on the left open enough for Shade to enter:
"The lady is waiting for you inside."

Shade nodded again, waited for a second, did not wait for the voice of the woman in his head to prompt the "element" to appear, and then entered the room.

The maid closed the door from the outside, and Shade turned his back to the door, looking towards the empty reception room.

The layout of the rooms here is very similar to the doctor's parlour and consultation room.

The bookshelves take up an entire wall, and the floor of the room is covered in carpet. The combination of desk, coffee table and sofa, and closet are all brown wood products, which look very business office style.

It's just that the brass-colored metal box on the coffee table is a bit dazzling. It looks like a so-called gear box, which requires the six-sided large and small gears to be rotated to a specific arrangement order to open.

The steam pipes and gas pipes on the walls blend well with the paint color of the painted walls. There are two gas lamps in the shape of angels playing horns on the walls all around. The warm rays of light , but no brighter than the crystal chandelier hanging from overhead.

The three windows on the wall facing the door were covered by heavy reddish-brown embroidered fabric curtains, but Shade did not consider the probability of the Tibetans behind the curtains.

It was so quiet that Shade felt like he had one's hair stand on end. Someone is spying on him, but definitely not in this room.
