Chapter 5 The Real World

Of course, Shade didn't run in the end. The three-month mission left by Mr. Hamilton, no matter how you think about it, knows that something is wrong, and Shade, who has been involved in it, since he did not leave before his death, it is more impossible to leave now.

But investigating that mission, and finding out about Hamilton's secrets, comes later. The key now is to get enough money to survive for a week before making other plans.

Bring the survey report and map, and don't forget the Compass and pocket watch in the desk drawer. For safety reasons, although no firearms were found, the cane can also be used as a weapon, and of course don't forget to bring a fruit knife.

The unremarkable black button-up coat and trousers were chosen for the clothes, which is in line with the dress habit of the city of Tobesque just entering the summer.

There are two bedrooms in Room 1 on the second floor. Shade found clothes that fit his current figure in the other room. It's a pity that the room suspected to belong to the original owner, Shade, has no diary or anything, nor any little hints that Shade originally wrote with a pathetic literacy, otherwise life would have been simpler.

After doing all this, the clock in the corner of the living room is approaching eleven o'clock in the morning.

Shade found the keys to the door and the door downstairs in the bowl in the cupboard at the door of the room. He locked the door discreetly, took a deep breath, and pulled a hair from his head through gritted teeth. He lay down on the floor between the door and the stairs, put his hair in the crack under the door, squinted his left eye, and made sure that his hair was facing the bulge on the left corner of the bedroom door in the room.

The windows in the stairwell are closed, and the first floor is also blocked. All the windows inside the room are closed, so you don't have to worry about your hair being moved by the wind. As long as Shade comes back, don't stride at the door, be careful when opening the door to the first floor, the hair position will indicate if anyone is passing or entering the room.

I wanted to stand up, but looked towards the locked door of room "2" on the second floor next door. So after thinking about it, he pulled down a piece of hair reluctantly, and clipped it between the crack of the door, parallel to the position of the lock.

Because there are so many secrets Mr. Hamilton keeps, it's always good to be cautious.

Circling down the stairs, the sound of stomping on deng deng deng in the quiet space made Shade nervous again for some reason.

There is no dust on the stair railings, and the decorative oil paintings on the walls also appear to be regularly wiped. The closer he got downstairs, the more Shade felt his heartbeat speed up.

He understands that there is nothing to panic about, but after all, this is the 1st Step to enter here, truly enter this world.

Standing in front of the door and changing his boots, he grabbed the black dome hat from the standing hanger and put it on his head. It took him a long time to hold the doorknob and push the door open.

The heartbeat became faster the moment the door was opened, and the feeling of entering an unfamiliar environment and accepting the fact that I had passed through was really uncomfortable.

He stepped over the threshold, but instead of looking out immediately, he walked out quickly with his head down, then turned around and turned the key to lock the door.

Closing his eyes, he slowly turned around to face the street, leaned back against the door, and pressed his head against the cold metal number "No. 6".

"There's nothing to be nervous about, just stepping into the foreign world, there's a high probability that you won't be able to go back."

He said to himself, trying to suppress the desire to take a deep breath, lifts the head , opened his eyes, leaned against the door, and looked at everything in front of him—

There was some smoke in the air, and the weather was gloomier than it was in the morning. But the noisy square is still full of people, gentlemen in formal suits and hats, ladies in skirts with powder on their faces, porters with wooden boxes, newsboys shouting with bare feet, shy soliciters The flower girl, the four-wheeled carriage rushing by, the bloated housewife in a lace hat with a paper bag
The air smells of burning, and all kinds of people mingle on the streets on the edge of the smoky square, hawking The sound and the clamor almost completely overlap. On the other side of the square in the distance, there is a three-storey house like the one behind it. The densely packed metal pipes are clinging to the wall, like vines and spider webs, shining in the weak midday sun.

In the center of the square stands a fountain with a girl holding a water bottle. The fountain does not spray water, but the statue has turned yellow. The patrol officer sitting next to the fountain wearing a police badge looked curiously towards Shade, the middle age person asked him if he needed help, and Shade hurriedly turned his eyes away.

The newspaper seller passed in front of him, and the sound of the soles of his feet rubbing against the gravel ground made his hair stand up; The exploratory sight from the window together made Shade's heart pump blood faster.

Feeling the beating of the heart, he opened his hands and pressed against the door behind him, and instinctively leaned back, terrified by the reality in front of him. The blood pressure surged, the heartbeat accelerated, and the sudden sound of a bell in the distance was almost like a bomb exploding in his head, making Shade almost faint.

It is so real, so incredible, so contrary to the common sense of the past twenty years. This is the foreign world, he really left his hometown, came to the foreign world, and came to a completely unfamiliar world.

"Don't panic! Don't panic!"

Shade in the heart keeps repeating, but the body's instinct can't be suppressed like this.

"It's okay, I'll be familiar with it all, I'll fit in here!"

He kept telling himself desperately, but his body was still involuntarily leaning back against the door , the back is already wet.

Suddenly, the woman's murmuring voice sounded again. Although it was also the voice of the foreign world, it seemed to pull Shade back to reality and let him face it all. The murmured voice, like reciting a psalm, declared:

【You have obtained 'Enlightenment'. ]

The speed of the heartbeat was slowed down by this sound, and the high blood pressure gradually returned to normal because of the Whisper, and the sound echoed in the heart.

"What Enlightenment?"

It's not that he didn't hear clearly, he just didn't understand the meaning of the sentence. [Enlightenment] also belongs to the four mysterious elements vaguely mentioned by the detective before his death, but Shade needs further explanation. He has now fully determined that the system in his brain is definitely not the system, and that voice is most likely a part of the mysterious system of this world.

【You are me, I am you. Stranger, you control the direction of fate in front of the curtain, and fate unfolds because of you; I touch the truth of the world behind the scenes, and you are strong because of me. Even if you are suspicious, we are one, we are not different. ]

The woman's voice didn't answer the question, but Shade was not angry, but rather happy.

His guess was right, in the mysticism system of this world, the voice in the mind is probably a part of contacting and using mysterious. The world view of this world seems to be somewhat close to Cthulhu and agnosticism. The transcendent and mysterious have power, and existence itself will affect mortals, so another power is needed to help mortals contact those weird and dangerous things.

"You are me, and I am you. Although you say that, you are definitely not the same as normal."

He wanted to verify his thoughts from the whispering voice in his head. , but all he got was a woman's chuckle.

In any case, he has at least been exposed to the mysterious elements of this world. Even if he doesn't understand anything, at least he is standing here and has his own goals.

The panic just now gradually subsided, as if I was getting closer to this age of steam surrounded by smoke. The down-to-earth feeling made Shade more calm, and he told himself to accept all this gradually, instead of useless panic:

"Make a commission, investigate Hamilton's story, gather four elements, research The voice in your head moves forward, don't panic."

Repeated in my mind, I finally let my back leave the door. Abandoning the idea of going back and changing clothes, Shade cautiously walked down the Level 3 steps at the door, came to stand on the street at the edge of the square, opened his eyes wide and looked up at this world amid the crowd. Let the world reflect in his eyes:

"Anyway, move forward."

He said in his heart, after a pause, he walked according to the plan in the house. Follow the circular street around the plaza and head towards the street entrance that leaves the plaza on the other side.
