Chapter 318: The Art of Making Tea

The truth was that it was supposed to be Bo Lifen who was producing the fire for the tea and not Taiga. The qi flames of the tigress spirit were overpowering and were at a sweltering heat and continued to strengthen further.

It flickered wildly while Bo Lifen was doing her best to heat the water for the tea.

[ Ao Infused Snow (Melted) ]

Obtained from the summit of Frostborne Mountain Peaks where the Goddess Aurora slept encased in ice. This contains pure spring water infused with the white-color of Ao that takes on the essence of Life.

"What's wrong with your fire?" Bo Lifen threw a look at the Tigress Spirit, a tad frustrated.

"What are you talking about? Bossman asked for fire and I made fire." Taiga pouted.

Bo Lifen shook her head. "Even regular fire doesn't become like this. It's so wild and chaotic that I can't estimate its temperature… but I do know that it's too hot. Are you trying to evaporate all the water too quickly? We won't have anything left."

"It's not Taiga's fault at all!" Taiga stuck out a tongue at her and hid behind Li Yang's shoulder. "If you have any problems with the fire then go fix it yourself."

"You know what, I'll do just that." Bo Lifen glanced at the fire burning underneath the stove of water and she quickly took out some wood. "We're not trying to burn a house down to a crisp, we only need low-fire. We're lucky that we have hardwood."

"All wood is hard." Taiga pointed out and motioned to the forest around all them. "Look around you and it doesn't take one long look to notice that they're all hard."

"We have hardwood and softwood, it's a matter of how dense they are and what seeds they produce." Bo Lifen shook her head and sighed. Explaining such things to someone who was so eager to contradict her was tiring, but she wished to relay the information.

"Taiga doesn't get it. When did trees ever have seeds?"

Bo Lifen sighed and decided to take care of the boiling water as she worked. "We use hardwood for fireplaces because they burn slower compared to softwood. Regardless, I do wish that you could burn things more evenly and at a specific temperature."

"You're asking too much!"

Narissa tried not to roll her eyes as she picked up the knife and started peeling the purple root crop that Bo Lifen chose earlier. The women were squabbling so hard that she couldn't concentrate—

"I think I'll go do it myself, Bai Minghua." Bo Lifen glanced over at the Mermaid trying to help with the tea making process and quickly took the knife away from her.

There was a look of surprise on Narissa's face and Bo Lifen coughed.

It almost seemed like the Mermaid actually wanted to do something and make herself useful. She didn't only want to watch and that made Bo Lifen hesitate as she looked at the table and pursed her lips.

"Er… could you pick out the nice and unbruised flower petals and dried leaves? I'm surprised that we have dried leaves, but this is good. I wouldn't normally mix them and prefer a purer tea, but since I'm unfamiliar, let's experiment a little, shall we?"

"Oh, sure." Narissa stared at the multiple flowers and looked at them with a frown. Before she could pick something up though, she was interrupted once again by the Tea Sommelier.

"Wait, nevermind. Let me do it." Bo Lifen moved to the right and checked out all of the available ingredients right before her. Some of them really did resemble earth-ingredients but the properties were often different from what she used.

The Tea Sommelier picked up some red seeds, scrutinized it with a frown and then crushed it between her fingers and nodded in satisfaction. Neither Taiga, Narissa or even Li Yang had any idea as to what assessment she had for each ingredient.

Narissa was still waiting for something to do and Bo Lifen knew it as she glanced over her shoulder and tried to be nice.

"How about you pick the type of tea set… wait, we only have one available." Bo Lifen slapped a hand on her forehead and picked up the available teapot and tapped it with a finger.

He had been only observing how the woman worked and there was indeed a level of fussy meticulousness that the Tea Sommelier was portraying as she worked.

Even though she refused to do it earlier, now that Bo Lifen was in the mood of making tea, every nuance was placed into it.

In some ways, it was obvious that Bo Lifen's dedication to her role and task was at an intensity that made him, a former workaholic, thoroughly impressed.

The man couldn't help but slightly wish that he was back at his office and only worrying about the decade-long corporate plan versus going against the whims of literal gods.

Li Yang coughed and tried to offer her some help. He found himself observing her for too long that he realized that he became too quiet amidst all of the women's conversation. "I could try to obtain another variety of teaware for you?"

Unfortunately, Bo Lifen was a bit too distracted with assessing the tea pot. She muttered to herself. "Clay tea pot. It's not too porous… and it's shape is sufficient enough for the distribution later."

"What is she saying?" Taiga looked at Narissa.

The Tea Sommelier finally glanced at the trio who had only been watching her work and she motioned to the table.

One could see that the fire was now already gone as Bo Lifen transferred the boiling water to the pot. Afterwards, she then motioned to the crushed up leaves, red seeds and flower petals which were now combined in one cup.

"As you've already noticed earlier, I've decided to make Red Tea since some of the leaves from these ingredients are already oxidized which is perfect… or at least I presume it will result in making the desired tea. I do wish we had a gaiwan or yixing zisha teapot, but this will have to do for now."

Bo Lifen sighed and picked up the teapot, placed a strainer on it and then looked at the cup that held the ingredients all together.

"What I meant to say earlier was that it's better to have a low-fired teapot to use which happens to be thicker and more porous clay than other variants."

"Okay…?" Narissa lifted a brow.

"It works best for Red Tea and Pu-Erh Tea." Bo Lifen intoned.

"Right." Taiga nodded.

Bo Lifen poured the hot water into the cup and then covered it. "Brewing the tea… or the more correct term is steeping the tea. This will be around five to eight minutes and will present a rather robust, strong and assertive flavor."

"As for its effects?" Li Yang inquired. "Can you tell what the tea blend you made will produce despite it being your first time to make this?"

"It was a bit mentally straining, but… I came to the conclusion that basically this particular tea's effects will strengthen your dantian." Bo Lifen shrugged. "Refine your life energy in its base form."

"Huh? Just that?" Taiga raised a brow. "Even Taiga can tell that much because of how special the ingredients are."

Bo Lifen only looked at Li Yang. "The actual snow you've given me earlier from what I could detect had a very vital energy which was tempered by the fire. It was a miracle that the characteristic of the water wasn't burned up which means that its density is high.

"As for the ingredients used, I've chosen a harmonious blend from flora that doesn't seem to be different from ours."

"Harmonious?" Li Yang rubbed his chin and glanced at the table. At the corner of it were the rest of the fruits, leaves, and other possible tea or even food prep material. "You were able to distinguish each predominant element of the ingredients and decide which ones could pair well with the other?"

Bo Lifen nodded. "The place where you came from also seems to have the practice of tea-drinking due to the fact that those who provided you with these plants included already dried leaves, seeds and flower petals that all seem to contain an essence of wood, fire and earth."

"Good, you've got them all correctly."
