The Blue Eyes

Chapter 170 - LUKE WHITE

Kevin was working in the laboratory when his phone vibrated on the table. He immediately left the monitor and grabbed the sophisticated object eagerly. A smile spread on his face as soon as he saw a certain name on the transparent screen.

["How was your car? Do you like it?"]

It was a text from his lover. This morning, they went to pick up the car from the shop, and Kevin drove the car right away to his workplace.

He was very happy because he finally got a new car. The silver car was different from his old black car, but he didn't mind the difference. It was an upgrade, anyway.

Not wanting to make his lover wait for long, he quickly typed a reply.

["I like it so much!"]

He smiled as he pressed the send button. Kris was like an angel for buying him such an expensive car. Is he an angel, or is he a sugar daddy? It seemed Kris treated him as a sugar baby.

The scientist shook his head to brush off the ridiculous thought. He then focused on his phone again when he felt it vibrated. A new message just arrived.

["So, you like the car more than me, huh?"]

The reply made him chuckle. He could imagine Kris's expression right now. His lover must be bored staying at their apartment alone, and he must be annoyed by the thought that Kevin liked the car more than him. That was ridiculous, though.

Kevin didn't reply anymore, and he just brought his phone closer to his lips and pressed a record button.

"I like the car, but I love you more, Kris."

"So, his name is Kris?"

Kevin jumped a little when he heard a voice coming from behind. He just pressed the send button for his voice note, but a familiar voice suddenly shocked him.

He turned his head a little and found Anna standing two meters away behind him. The girl chuckled as she walked over to his table.

Kevin huffed annoyedly as he put down his phone on the table.

"Your boyfriend's name is Kris, right? When will you introduce him to me, Senior?"

Kevin wanted to ignore the girl, but his heart was too soft that he couldn't bring himself to act coldly toward the girl.

"Why should I introduce him to you? I know that my boyfriend is hot, but you don't stand a chance to steal him from me," Kevin replied firmly.

Anna giggled as she sat down on a chair beside Kevin. The latter just sighed. It was gonna be a long day.

"I just want to see him in person, not gonna snatch him from you, Senior," the girl rebuked after her giggle stopped.

"Do you want to talk to me about something?" Kevin asked, deciding not to prolong the matter about his lover.

"So, you do know that I come here for a purpose, Senior?" The girl asked innocently.

Kevin just ignored her as he took off his reading glasses and put them on the table.

Getting no response from the senior, Anna decided to speak again, "Have you updated your profile on our database, Senior? Our boss asked me to remind you about that."

Kevin finally turned to Anna again when he heard the girl's question. "Is it so important to update my profile?" He asked back instead of answering.

"Of course it is," Anna answered quickly. "Our boss told me that it will affect our salary."

"How can our salary depend on our profile update? Mr. Conor had asked us to update our profile at least once a year, but I don't even know what to update. My profile is still the same."

The junior giggled when she heard Kevin's complaint. "That's true, but it's the regulation in Orka, Senior. We just need to write down what we had done in a year. Our boss just wants to see our achievement in a year. That's not hard, right?"

Kevin snorted softly. It was not hard, indeed. They just needed to update their achievement in a year. If they got some awards in the past year, then they could write them down in the profile. In addition, they could also write down their research list in the past year. The profile was like a journal for the scientist, and they just needed to update it once a year.

Suddenly, their conversation about the profile reminded Kevin of something. He quickly turned to Anna again and asked, "Do you have the access to our database, Anna?"

The question was quite unexpected for the girl as she raised her eyebrows confusedly. "No," she answered. "Do you need anything with the database, Senior?"

Kevin bit his lips as a hint of hesitation grazed his face. He was not sure whether it was necessary or not to make a query about that matter.

Anna still waited for his answer, so Kevin made a decision.

"I want to know about something. Can you tell me who is the one who has access to the database?"

Now, it was Anna's turn to look hesitant. She kept staring at Kevin as if she tried to read what was on the latter's mind. Kevin was still looking at her with a pleading gaze, and the gaze seemed to melt Anna's guard.

"Senior Luke has the access. You can ask him if you need something."

Luke White. He joined Orka at the same period as he and Andre. He and Luke were the same age, but they didn't familiar with each other at all. Luke was cold and indifferent, and he barely talked when he was working in the laboratory. Kevin never had a project with him, and it made the condition worse. They were basically strangers.

"Is he the only one who has the access?" Kevin asked his junior.

"Of course not, but he's the approachable one. Other than him, there are also our seniors, but I'm pretty sure it will be harder for you to approach them."

Kevin was speechless. The words 'approachable' and 'Luke' didn't match at all. There was no way that Luke was approachable.

But, Anna must be right. It would be more difficult to ask for information from their seniors. They were just too strict and conservative.

"Alright," Kevin finally decided as he got up from his seat. "I will go to see him. Thank you for the information, Anna." He started walking away from the girl.

Anna was dumbfounded for a moment, but she still managed to ask, "What about your profile, Senior? When will you update it?"

Kevin chuckled, and he didn't turn his head to the back when he answered, "I'll update it later." As he kept walking toward the door.

He walked down the corridor calmly. Luke was not a scientist, but he was an IT expert in Orka. Kevin didn't know his job desk, though. Only today that he learned about the job to manage the scientists' database.

He arrived at the elevator and pressed the button to go downward. His workplace was on the ninth floor, and Luke's workplace was on the fifth. That was why he needed to use the elevator to go down.

Not long after, the elevator door opened, and Kevin immediately entered the silver object. The door closed once again before it started moving downward.

There was a faint 'ding' sound before the elevator door opened on the fifth floor. Kevin didn't waste his time as he quickly stepped out of the elevator.

He then continued his step to Luke's workplace. He rarely visited the IT floor, but he knew where Luke's desk was. That was why he could find the man easily.

Luke was a handsome man. He was tall, probably around Kris's height, he dyed his hair ash grey, and the head stood out very much in the room.

Kevin immediately walked over to the man and stopped right in front of his desk. He thought the other man would notice him right away, but he was wrong. The man still focused on his monitor in front of him without paying attention to him.

Kevin frowned. He could see that the grey-haired man was wearing a headphone, but he was sure that the latter didn't wear sunglasses to stop him from noticing his presence.

'Am I invisible for him?' The black-haired man wondered inwardly.

Getting no response, Kevin finally decided to fake a cough. But, to his dismay, the other man still didn't react. He then decided to snap his fingers in front of the man, and finally, he got the response he was waiting for.

The handsome man looked up, and Kevin was greeted by a pair of green eyes. Oh, Kevin just noticed that the man had beautiful eyes.

"Do you need something?" Luke asked with his baritone voice. The voice was even deeper than Kris's.

"Ah..." Kevin looked awkward after he heard the question. He didn't even know how he should ask the man about that matter. He didn't have any plan, for God's sake!

Luke took off his headphone and still looked up at Kevin. The sharp gaze gave Kevin goosebumps.

He couldn't think straight, so he just blurted, "Do you want to have lunch with me?"
