The Blue Eyes

Chapter 70 - THE TRUTH

Kevin Beischel. The handsome scientist was still staring at the elderly lady, who was now rounding her eyes after hearing how Kevin called her.

The name that was just uttered by the young man had been buried deep in the lady's life. Only a few people still called her by that name, and Kris was one of them. That was because she didn't live with that name anymore. For seventeen years, Selena Beischel lived as Monica Nierling.

The werewolf, who was still sitting beside Kevin, gave Kevin a shocked expression as well. He was also surprised when he suddenly heard Kevin mentioned a name that seemed taboo for him to say.

"How did you—"

"How did I know?"

Kevin quickly cut Kris' words, which seemed to mean to ask him a question.

Kevin's eyes didn't turn to Kris when he cut the question. His almond eyes remained focus on the lady sitting across from him as if he was patiently waiting for her to speak.

A few minutes had passed, but the lady was still silent.

Until finally, Kevin sighed as he turned to look at Kris. "From our conversations, I made a hypothesis that Mrs. Monica Nierling knows a lot about the cases we face. She even knows more than you, Kris." The young man stared at Kris's eyes with his blue eyes. "And, I know that there are only two humans who know everything related to werewolves. The first person is Joseph Beischel, and the second person is Selena Beischel." Again, he looked at the lady. "You can't be Joseph Beischel, so you must be Selena Beischel."

The lady could only lower her head at Kevin's denunciations. She smiled sadly and said, "It turns out you already knew who I am before I can tell you anything, Kev."

"Don't call me that! I'm not familiar with you, so don't call me that!"

Suddenly, Kevin looked very angry and yelled at the lady, who was none other than Selena Beischel, his biological mother.

Selena looked shocked at the shouting, but she didn't say anything. Kris was startled as well. He tried to calm Kevin down by rubbing the latter's shoulder, but his hand was harshly brushed away by the scientist.

The white-haired man then sarcastically said to Kris, "I thought you only knew Selena Beischel in the past. I didn't expect that you joined hands with her to fool me."

Kris was speechless. He could only stare at Kevin with a face filled with guilt.

The minutes were filled with silence because the three adults in the room did not make a sound.

Until finally, Kevin sighed again as he gawked at Selena. "For the time being, we should forget all that," he stated wisely. "I want you to explain to me about the power inside my body. I've read the journals you left behind, so you can skip the parts you wrote in your journals."

Selena raised her head and looked back at Kevin. Her face looked somber. It seemed that she didn't expect that Kevin had read the journals.

The lady looked pathetic to see how her son behaved to her, but what could she do? She had indeed disappointed Kevin for seventeen years. She had hurt the young man, so it was only natural that Kevin hated her at the end of the day.

"Early in 2021, your father started the BLUE10122021 project," Selena began her explanation. "The project was planned to create the strongest werewolf, which will be carried out on December 10, 2021. Throughout the year, your father worked hard to create a formula, and finally, the formula was ready at the end of the year."

Kevin didn't interrupt Selena's explanation. He carefully listened to the story told by the lady who gave birth to him 27 years ago.

"On the dawn of December 10, 2021, me, your dad, and Mike Allaband—Kris' dad, started that big project by injecting the great formula into a baby who had just been born a few hours earlier. The baby was Blue."

Kevin was stunned by Selena's explanation. He glanced at Kris for a moment, and the werewolf's expression looked normal. Obviously, his lover already knew the stories.

"We did it in a secret room inside the laboratory guarded by a dozen of werewolves. Until finally, we got information that human soldiers surrounded us. We started our scenario afterward. Your father called one of the army leaders and said that the two of us were being held hostage by the werewolves. Your father said that the conditions in the place were not good and we couldn't be saved again, so he asked the soldiers to blow up the building."

The look of surprise on Kevin's face became clearer after he heard the follow-up story from Selena.

"The room we were in was actually far from the center of the explosion, but the explosive power of the bombs detonated by the human soldiers was apparently so strong that the impact still reached our room. Our room was not destroyed, but the flames and thick smoke lingered over to where we were. That's when I took the opportunity to escape with Blue through a secret underground passage known only to myself."

Selena temporarily closed her long story with a deep sigh. The lady seemed quite exhausted from continuing to talk without pause.

Kevin was still silent. This time, his gaze fell onto his feet which were wrapped in a pair of flip-flops. He didn't expect such scenarios happened seventeen years ago.

"And, that's when you started running your own scenario?" Kevin asked again weakly.

Again, Selena looked at Kevin guiltily. "We found you after that," she answered softly.

"We?" Kevin asked again. He was not dumb to not notice the word 'we' mentioned by the lady

"Yes, we. Me and Kris."

The short answer made Kevin round his blue eyes. His head hastily turned towards Kris and gave the latter a demanding gaze, asking for a comprehensive explanation.

"Do you still remember the female werewolf, who begged for forgiveness from the human army, and you ended up trying to protect her while you were on your way to your parents' laboratory?" Kris asked Kevin, who was now looking at him confusedly. "The female werewolf is my mother," continued the taller man.

Again, Kevin was shaken by Kris's explanation. He certainly still remembered the female werewolf. The werewolf cried for forgiveness, but a human soldier continued to torture her.

At that time, Kevin tried to help her, but he was pushed by one of the soldiers. In her badly injured condition, the female werewolf smiled at him and signaled him to leave the place. He didn't leave right away, so he could see how the barrage of bullets pierced the werewolf's heart.

"I was also there back then, hiding behind one of the walls of the building that was previously our secret base. I saw how you tried to save my mother. But, after you found out that my mother had died, you finally walked away from that place. I followed you, and it turned out you walked towards the laboratory building. Before you could reach the building, the building exploded. I saw you passed out after you saw how the building was shattered to pieces."

Kevin was stunned. His brain re-played the memory. He remembered how he saw the building exploded and caught fire. At that time, his tears just melted away, his legs couldn't support his weight, and he passed out.

"Then, how did the two of you meet after that explosion?" Kevin asked in his vulnerable voice.

"At that time, I immediately took you away from the exploding building because I didn't want you to get hurt. On my way away from there, I ran into Professor Selena carrying baby Blue. We then hid together in an empty building that was not used."

Kevin stared at his feet with a wistful gaze. "That's right. You did tell me that you had known Selena Beischel for a long time, even before you knew me. That's why you have conspired for a long time," said the scientist sarcastically.

"This is all my fault. Kris has only carried out my orders, so don't hate him."

Selena's voice was heard again, and Kevin again raised his head to look at the lady. He smirked a little and said, "Of course, I will hate you even without you asking."

The room became stiff and very cold. There was a tense aura between the three of them. Kevin felt angry and disappointed, while the other two felt sorry and guilty. All kinds of emotions filled the room until the room felt cramped.

"Do you still want to know about the origin of your power?" Selena finally broke the silence. She looked at Kevin, but her son didn't give her a verbal response and just continued to stare at her blankly. The lady sighed and continued, "After I met Kris and we hid together, I put baby Blue on a pile of wood, and then...

[Selena walked over to a boy who was lying unconscious on the dirty floor. She took out a small vial of blue formula and also a syringe from her coat pocket.

Another boy, who was sitting beside the unconscious boy, widened his eyes in surprise. "What's that, Professor?"

The professor smiled a little before she filled up the syringe with the blue formula, then injected it into the unconscious boy's body.

"The formula will make Kevin stronger, Kris."]

Kevin's blue eyes, which had looked empty before, now gave off a sense of shock. "What formula did you inject into my body to allow me to gain the power and even turn me into a wolf?" He asked confusedly.

Selena sighed again, and with a very serious expression, she replied, "It's Joseph's formula that was supposed to be injected into baby Blue's body."
